That's how things roll in college. You don't think properly. Trust me, I've seen examples of it.

There are some in every crowd who, simply, are idiots. They do not represent the entire group who just want to peacefully protest. Unfortunately, it just takes a few idiots to make everybody else look bad.
And I;ll bet that not all these trouble makers are students, they are just misfits from the neighborhood .

Your mistake is that you assume they were acting rationally. Riots do not form rationally. They are just a manifestation of anger, frustration, and (in this case) alcohol consumption.
