I want to be Pope...?
Not really a very serious question, but I do want to hear what people may have to say for the heck of it-it might even make me laugh.
I'm to become a priest, but lately I've been getting dreams of attaining the papacy...is it wrong for me to desire such power?
I was right...this did make me laugh ^_^ Me asking this in yahoo answers of all places! Still I apprecitate it. Thank you to all who took the few seconds to answer this.
Oh here's another thing I find funny^^ my last name is Borgia.
diamond_...: I know. It isn't much, but it's the highest position in the Church, and I want to do so much...especially regarding those child-abuse scandals. God said not to hate-but I feel I can't follow that exactly-I want those bastards crushed. And this war that's been going on for centuries in the Middle East...is getting really tiring. Also, I know the Church has done some pretty...umm...shall we say crappy things in human history, is it wrong for me to feel like someone has make amends for all of that?
In any case, power resides in wherever people want it to. The official powers may not be much, but it does give me plenty of license to move around, and from there attain real power.
I want to change the world so desperately...like a fire that burns my soul; the drive of my existense. I've had enough of how this world works...I don't want to be weak anymore, to be powerless to change things. And I think, even for a priest, those feelings can be understood.

If you're in it for the power, the Holy Spirit would not allow it ... at least in theory. Since Herr Ratzinger got the Holy See, my faith in that process is shaken.
But if you want to be sure to have a chance to become Pope, first make sure that you're doing it for the right reasons -- because you love God and His people.

Probably.
The Pope is a servant, not a ruler.
The hierarchy of the Catholic Church looks like this.
1. God
2. The Church, the People of God love and serve the Lord
3. Deacons serve God and the People of God
4. Priests serve God, the People of God, and the deacons
5. Bishops serve God, the local Church (the diocese, the People of God, the deacons, and the priests)
6. The Pope serves God and the entire Church (the People of God, the deacons, the priests, and the bishops). This is why the Pope is called the servant of the servants of God.
Men who become Pope serve in lower and lower roles until they are the servants of everyone.
The hierarchy of ordained ministers in the Catholic Church mirrors how Jesus and the Apostles set up the original Christian Church. There are three levels of Holy Orders, Deacon, Priest, and Bishop.
Deacons serve the Church by assisting the bishop and priests in the celebration of the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion, in assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity.
Priests serve the Church as co-workers of the bishops and can lead a parish. A special title for a priest is monsignor. Priests are called presbyters in the Bible.
Bishops are the Apostles of today. Each bishop serves the Church by leading a diocese which a group of parishes centered around a large city. Special types of bishop are archbishop, cardinal, and pope (who leads the whole Church).

According to the Bible, the only choice we must make is whether we obey God or play god. And what makes a god a god? Having the knowledge of good and evil, which is what got Adam and Eve kicked out of Eden. What does the Pope teach but the knowledge of good and evil as if he were God. Are you sure you want a job that separates you from God?

Personally speaking, I see no difference between the Pope or thee average man on the street. NO, according to what Jesus taught us, all have sinned and come short the glory of God...
Do you really believe that the Pope (a flesh and blood sinner like us all) has the power to excommunicate anyone?
If God honored the Pope's selfish evil wishes to d-a-m-n a one time servant to H-e-l-l, he would not be God!

The papacy doesn't bring as much "power" as you might think. The pope is limited in doctrinal power by previous christian tradition, and limited in secular power by bureaucracy and other world leaders. The job is more obligation and honor than power.

You are walking down the path to the dark side.
Jesus says, come out of her and be not partakers of her sins or the plagues that will come upon her.

Hey, me too! I've always thought that it would be cool to be pope. There are only two things stopping me - I'm a girl and I'm not Catholic, or in fact any kind of Christian. Ah well. You can do it instead of me if you want, I don't mind.

There should be desire to take responsibility, not power. If one is able to, then why not?
