A productive remedy usually doesn't involve a smack,

but a lack of getting a reward for their aggression helps.

    A spritz of water helps.

Getting a reward for the right behavior helps, cats can learn what works to get a reward even though they're not as mold-able as dogs.

Only if you want your cat to hit back. With claws.

A cat will eventually learn over time that doing certain things will earn it a "spanking", something it doesn't like.

But so will spraying it with a water bottle, or using an air canister to make a loud hissing noise when the cat does something it shouldn't, less aggressive methods of behavior modification.

So, why not use the less aggressive and painless method, instead. You will have more luck than if you hit your animal and cause it to become aggressive and afraid of people. That is unnecessary and inhumane.

The point is to startle the cat, not hurt the cat. I hope I helped.

I've trained many cats not to scratch my sofa using a spray bottle. You have to be consistent using the squirt phase of the spray bottle. It scares the s**t out of them. they wonder where did that come from and when they try it again, squirt and they think OH scratching the sofa is bad and they will stop. If you are not home put balloons where they scratch, the balloons will pop and do the same that is if scratching is the problem but the squirt bottle really does work on any kind of misbehavior. Jumping on counters and tables, going potty where they are not suppose to, climbing the curtains but you have to do it while they are in the act of, not just any old time squirt them that is cruel and undeserving punishment and will confuse them

You should never hit any animal for any reason.

When the cat does something bad spray it with water and eventually it will associate the spraying of water with doing the stuff you dont want done.

Now if the cat is doing something it would naturally do in the wild (like scratch up your couches) and you didnt buy a scratching post, and you get mad @ the cat thats actually your YOUR FAULT.

If my cats doing something wrong I give them this mad look and say "No" or "Bad" rather loud. But a bit after that I find them and just keep stroking them. They've become calm loving lap cats now.

Never EVER hit an animal, how would you like to be hit by a being x10 your size? It would hurt very bad.

The cat will not associate physical punishment with its misbehavior. It will assume you're hitting it because you are mean, become defensive and stressed, and possibly misbehave more because it no longer values you as a caretaker when you treat it in a way it considers cruel.

It needs to be shown alternative behavior which is proper in order to replace the misbehavior.

no, that would be animal cruelty!!

just because your pet did something bad, doesn't mean u can go around smacking them.

i dont know if its true (if you smack a cat it messes them up) but knowing this why would u want to smack your cat anyway?

yup thats true.....the cat will just get frustrated. they might not be able to associate you hitting them to whatever bad thing they did. use a spray bottle or shake a can full of pennies whenever they misbehave. or just say no kind of loud.

You probably shouldnt hit a cat. Just get out you're handy dandy spray bottle and spray your misbehaving critter. That can also work on dogs as well!

If you smack then hard enough yes it can hurt them. Its not nice to smack them anyways. That's animal cruelty. Which is not smart on your behalf.
