Is it safe to fly on an airplane if i have a ruptured eardrum?

I'm flying from California to Florda in about 10 days, but last night my eardrum ruptured.

I went to the hospital this morning and they gave me antibiotics.

im afraid that while im flying my ears will pop from the altitude and affect my eardrum problem.

is it safe?

It is safe. The pain in your ear should be less if you have a ruptured eardrum, because the pressure that would build up in your ear while ascending or descending will be able to pass freely through the hole. The bigger concern would be if you plan to swim or engage in water sports while in Florida. It is important to keep your ear canal clean and dry and to finish the entire prescription of your antibiotics. Wear a swimmers earplug in that ear if your ear could get wet. Most department stores carry these types of earplugs. Have fun and be safe!

Swimmer's ear shouldn't cause any problem for you, however hard to say about the ear infection. If it is truly infected, it isn't clear why your doc isn't treating it. Flushing the ear canal may well have made a vulnerable situation worse. Before you go, could lay your affected ear on a heating pad, or try zapping a wet wash rag in the microwave for about 15 seconds, make sure it isn't too hot, lay that on the ear or lay your head on it, although that isn't going to make the infection resolve any faster. You might do well to follow up with your doctor related to potentially getting worse when you are on your trip, complications from pressurized cabin, etc. Chewing gum will help to allow your ears to pop. Be well and good luck.

No, I wouldn't. Just go by road. You don't want to risk losing your hearing or getting Tinnitus. I have ear problems myself, they pop alot, if you hear a crackling sound, you might want to see a ear doctor again.

Call a doctor and ask them to be sure. Even if they tell you it's safe, be aware that it will probably hurt like of a son-of-a-gun-- I know mine did!
