Are rawhide treats bad for dogs?

I heard that rawhide treats are no good for dogs because they cannot digest them, is this a fact? and what else is not good for them?

I have heard the same thing. They are very tough to digest and can clog the intestines, and that seldom will cause a death. It can happen. Say No to Rawhide!

You are doing the right thing by supervising your pup! Normally the problem is when a large piece is swallowed and that can either choke your pup or cause a blockage. Some raw hides do contain some pretty nasty chemicals as well so you do need to be concerned with that. I let my girls have a dingo (rawhide bone brand) every so often. I worry about my beagle taking a large chunk and swallowing so I share your concern. Sadly most of these treats carry the potential to do harm if eaten incorrectly. Greenies are known for causing severe blockages and death from improper chewing.

It's true. Dogs cannot digest large pieces of rawhide. This means the dog has to either pass a very large blockage or retain a very large blockage, both of which are extremely painful with the latter being potentially fatal.

Some other foods that are harmful to dog are:

    Onions

    Grapes/Raisins

    Nuts

    Alcohol

Not a complete list of course. Just some examples.

Yes that is a fact and bullies are not allowed to have raw hide or pig ears or hooves. The dye in rawhide is also no good and they can choke on them.

Try kongs filled with treats, bully sticks, nylabones, or raw beef bones for the butcher (never cooked bones). Your dog should love all those!

Doge need to chew, it keeps their gums and teeth in good order, Rawhide is not supposed to be a 'food' , As for what else is bad Anything they find on the street, Chocolate, plastic bags .a dog of mine would eat them wherever he could, incl the bin bags in the bin, they cannot be digested you have to pull them out sometimes, BUT Being unable to digest something doesn't mean the dog wont eat whatever takes its fancy given the chance. Youd be very surprised at what does or doesn't go through them.

Dog training are excellent and very helpful to build you a stronger relationship with your dog. Read more https://tr.im/rn8fI

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. This course is a really good place to go for dog obedience classes. It get's your dog around other people and dogs to socialize while getting the training you need. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. I mean of course you're going to need to correct your dog, but being positive and encouraging your dog works a lot faster and easier.

Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy. She's still a puppy and has a lot of energy. A backyard or somewhere to run will help her get rid of a lot of energy that might cause her to misbehave from boredom.

    Raw hides: How to Choose

Dr's. Foster & Smith Educational Staff

Rawhide is sure to be one of your pet's favorite treats. Naturally nutritious, high in protein, and low in fat - it is also good for his oral health. Chewing rawhide improves dental health by helping scrape away plaque, control tartar buildup, and maintain gum health. It is also an enjoyable activity that entertains your dog for hours and keeps his mind stimulated. Unfortunately, all rawhide is not created equal. Because "quality" rawhide offers your pet significant benefits, it is well worth seeking out.

Look for quality rawhide for your special pup

Dr's. Foster & Smith goes to great lengths to ensure that our rawhide chews are the absolute best. Made from premium beef hide, produced in the U.S.A., our rawhide is created only by manufacturers we trust to adhere strictly to our approved manufacturing processes, and consistently live up to our high quality standards.

You can see the Dr's. Foster & Smith Premium Rawhide difference

Our Premium Rawhide is better three ways:

•Natural drying - Our Premium Rawhide is air-dried naturally, not with chemicals.

•No bleaching - We do not bleach our rawhide. That's why they are cream colored, not white, your indicator that the natural flavor and nutrition are still there.

•Heavier and thicker - Our bones are heavier than the same-sized bones you can buy elsewhere. Because our bones are made from thicker hides and wrapped tighter, they last longer, provide the greatest chewing satisfaction, and are a better value.

    Premium Selections

Whatever type of rawhide your dog prefers - traditional knotted bones, rings, sticks, or rolls - we offer a quality chew to satisfy his taste and your budget. Check out all of the Dr's. Foster & Smith Premium Super Deluxe, Extra Thick, and Super Heavyweight rawhide selections:

    •Super Deluxe Bones,

    •Super Deluxe Twisted Chews Multi-Packs

    •Super Deluxe Multi-Pack Bones

    •Extra Thick Rawhide Chips Multi-Packs

    •Super Heavy Weight Bones

    Specialty Selections

In addition to Premium Natural chews, we also offer a large selection of other quality rawhide chews. These include flavored varieties, dental mint, and treats. Some of the most popular include:

•Beef eaters Rawhide Bones - Four rich meaty tastes you won't mind your dog chewing on the carpet: beef, chicken, lamb/rice, or cheese/bacon.

•Dental Mint Rawhide - Your dog will enjoy this rawhide treat while he cleans and freshens his breath

•Pressed Rawhide Bones - Nutritious, filled with flavor, and Made to stand up to the most aggressive chewers

•Treats - Shaped novelties, chew sticks, and more, designed to please any pup.

Chewing rawhide is safe, but it is always a good idea to supervise your pet. When your dog has chewed on a piece of rawhide to the point of it becoming soft, take the chew away and substitute another.

It really does pays to satisfy your pup's chewing instincts with a real, premium rawhide bone or chew. Whichever type of rawhide you offer your pet, he will find chewing it just plain.

This is all I could find.. but I am not so sure.. it is all true.. I had a Rocwaller.. and the vet told me not to buy them.. I now have a Lab.. and do not feed him them.. ???? better safe than sorry..

I just use the hard biscuits.. or jerky..

    good luck
