Has anyone used the free program PREY to retrieve their lost or stolen computer?

Most thieves will reformat a stolen laptop if they intend to keep it. If they turn around and sell it, this would not help catch the thief, but it might help recover the laptop, if the person who purchases the stolen laptop does not turn around and perform a factory recovery or reformat it.

So, although it looks nice, it will only work on a small portion of thieves who steal laptops, and then turn around and keep using them just as they were.

As a side note, installing this software does give anyone potential access to all that information. The software is essentially a back door to everything on your machine. Imagine an unethical person who worked for Prey, now has access to EVERYTHING you have access to. So, potentially, once you install the software, anyone could have access to see YOUR running desktop, what programs you are using, and what you are doing in front of your computer. Just a thought.

    end of line
