Hi :) How does anyone start to define this wide question???? Society is better now, we have more civil liberties...but its that a good thing?, we all respect each other more (is that to do with politic's?) We have a stronger economy...We have to pay more for fuel..elec and gas, expensive...conservatives privatised it and sold it off, have more immigrant's...conservatives joined the E.U.....Today our banking system is corrupt, conservatives introduced banker's pay scale's(today is called my money feed's fat cat's) Conservative's last time they were in power put one in eight people out of work....Fact......read again....Am not against cameron, but now we have a economy on a knife edge...vote conservative, vote goodbye uk....With countries like china and india gaining ground on western economie's, we have no room to manouver a fault, now is not the time to experiment with a party that has doomed so many people previously :)

Well 13 years ago I would say I was better off then, and that's because in 1997 we were in the middle of the Dot Com Boom and less than four percent umemployment. If you didn't like your job, you could quit one day then have another job the next day. Now, in a time when were barely limping out of a terrible economic recession, most people are worse off simply due to the economy regardless of the party in power.

I've owned a cigar shop since 1993. It was doing great from the gitgo and and throughout the 90s and early 2000s. I had a decline in sales starting around 2004 after the economy just started ticking downward, and I barely survived the major recession of 2008-2009. Just in the last quarter am I starting to regain my customer base.

No we are not.My husband of 61 was made redundant last year after working all his life without recourse to asking financial help from anyone. He earned the minimum wage in his last job because this government had made the haulage industry uncompetitive with the high price of diesel, road tax, health and safety, the (EU) working time directive(only adhered to by the UK) and allowing johnny foreigner into the UK with no road tax,no insurance, cheap diesel in belly tanks, unroadworthy and overloaded vehicles driven by drivers( I use the word loosely)who as often as not have "bought " their hgv licences and are driving illegally over the tacho hours. He has been unable to get another job due to the above and his age and has now had to ask for benefits. We are now £200 per week worse off with no light at the end of the tunnel.Thank god we are careful with money and only owe the mortgage on the house which we are managing to pay.I really don't know who to vote for this time round but we didn't vote for the labour party ever.

New Labour took away MIRAS in 2000. They took away married couples allowance under 75 years of age. They took away the 10p tax rate up to £10000. They increased National Insurance. They increased prescription charges. They introduced "green" taxes. They've raided pension pots to the point where they're just about worthless. And don't even start me on the price of unleaded!!!!

They've managed to increase public spending to the point where the annual deficit is bordering £700 billion a year. They've managed to increase the benefits bill from £92 billion in 1997 to £193 billion this year. All done by ripping every spare penny out of the taxpayers pocket.

And we're supposed to believe we're better off are we?

Yes, I think you may be right, but ,unfortunatelt, Labour have carried on with so many of the Tory policies that were in place then, that they have lost a lot of their own supporters. In general, taking into account all employment, the NHS, and housing, I suppose the majority are certainly no worse off.

I am better off now than I was then, but that is not down to Labour.I have no time for any party, they just want to feather there own nest, look at the expenses they take on top of a good wage.

I like your sense of humour. My pension was damaged by Brown's actions and my savings are being eroded. The pound is down in real value by 10/12% which will effect everyone eventually. I do wish people would wake up to the 'achievements of this Government, most of which are negative.

I and my family are worse off is the answer.

I'm better off now than I was 13 years ago, but that was down to my own efforts. The party of government had nothing to do with it.

Well you know what you can do with your suggestions don't you? How would you know? Rob Roy and one shot have said most of what i would have said , who can afford to retire? Who can afford to go on holiday? Who can afford to drive a car? Who can afford to take the family out for the day? Who can afford to spend as much in a supermarket as you once used to? Who can afford to save any money? Who can afford to buy a house? Who can afford to go to university?

You have a good think about it pal - we're all skint!

You may not personally realise it but the Country as a whole certainly isn't.
