Why should Obama rush to Iceland and stop the volcano eruption to prevent global warming?

He thinks people are the most abundant global warmers. We hold no candle to one volcano.

There are a pair of effects. the two one in each of which, in Iceland's case are negligible. a million. They do launch some CO2. 2. They launch dirt, which blocks some solar. besides the fact that, Icelandic volcanoes launch magma from deep interior the earth, so the two a sort of effects are extremely low, while in comparison with Mt Pinatubo to illustrate. Icelandic, like Hawaiian volcanoes, are extremely "sparkling" in that maximum of what comes up is basaltic sort rock.

Wrong. We produce far more CO2 than Volcano's do per year. USGS has many articles on the subject, check it out. The volcano may put out more Energy than we ever could, but not more CO2. Also volcano CO2 emissions are part of a natural process which can be removed from the atmosphere and put back into the soil through rain. We add to that process faster than it can remove the CO2.

Global cooling will actually happen because of all the fun nasty stuff the volcano puts into the atmosphere to block out the sun a wee bit.

Becasue its carbon emissions relative to human emissions is minuscule. Volcanic eruptions have a net cooling effect because of the aerosols the release.

    From the USGS website:

"Comparison of CO2 emissions from volcanoes vs. human activities.

Scientists have calculated that volcanoes emit between about 130-230 million tonnes (145-255 million tons) of CO2 into the atmosphere every year (Gerlach, 1991). This estimate includes both subaerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts. Emissions of CO2 by human activities, including fossil fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring, amount to about 27 billion tonnes per year (30 billion tons) [ ( Marland, et al., 2006) - The reference gives the amount of released carbon (C), rather than CO2, through 2003.]. Human activities release more than 130 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes--the equivalent of more than 8,000 additional volcanoes like Kilauea (Kilauea emits about 3.3 million tonnes/year)! (Gerlach et. al., 2002)"

Actually, humans emit much more carbon per year than do volcanoes.

    Thanks
