Do clothes really remain dirty if washed inside-out?
My mum always used to tell me "if you put the clothes in the wash inside-out the water won't be able to get into them and your clothes will still be dirty".
I never believed her, so she continued to receive inside-out clothing from me.
But now that I'm at the age of doing my own washing, her words have come back to haunt me and I've started to wonder - is there any truth in what she used to tell me?

She just told you that because she was sick of having to turn the clothes right side out. Don't worry, the water is going to soak through the clothes no matter what side is out and will get clean.

No, its not true. The reason moms say these kinds of things is because if the clothes are not turned right side out when they are put in the wash, mom can't inspect them for stains (and if you don't treat the stains before you put them in the wash they won't come out) and also, it's another step to go through when it's time to fold them and put them away.
