IED solutions - how effective would these ideas be?
Dummy Humvees - remote controlled fake humvees with dummy people inside. Construction can be balsa wood even if realism is not factor. Send them to the front of the convoy and reduce probability of real casualties.
Helicopter transport - MRAPs already cost a million. Why not get more helicopter transports out there that go high altitude? Can't there be transport helicopters made just for transporting troops that are very crude and cheap? No features... Just engine, basic controls, and light armor... I'm imagining mythbuster's garage style construction... very basic
Helipacks - personal "jetpacks" where soldiers wearing more level 4 armor can just travel in packs like in minority report. It actually has been around for some time... http://english.pravda.ru/main/2002/06/11/30172.htm...
If the device is shot, the soldier can use a cheap retrorocket with a emergency stabilizer... like a drag chute to land safely.. and/or just fly relatively low.
Mix in - just wear civilian clothes and ride in civilian vehicles.. I'm not sure what this will bring.. didn't really think it through.. maybe bad idea.

Dummy Humvees is already being done on a small scale.
Helicopter Support, its not so much about buying the helicopter that is the issue, its getting the pilots. You can buy a bunch helicopters almost overnight, it takes years to train the pilots. Increasing the number of helicopters is a goal in the QDR (Department of Defense's long range plan) that just released in January.
Takes a lot of training and the fact is, flying around at low speed really just makes you an easier target. It might work for police and showing a presence, but it would not be too useful in an actual threat environment.
Mix in- It is done on a small scale to a point, mostly by Department of State. The problems that come from it is that now the enemy could claim any accident at all was done by US Forces. Second, when something does happen, you have almost no weapon support.
