Why are followers of the atheism religion so damn peaceful?

I mean, while the Shiites and Sunnis and Catholics and Protestants of today's world are tearing each other apart over their denominational differences, not one of the many atheist denominations has made the news for slanging or attacking the other.

The peaceful co-existence between the followers of FSM, Ceiling Cat, Basement Cat and so on is deeply disturbing. Not only that, they don't also attempt to persecute theists and influence state laws basing on their non-beliefs. They don't trample over the rights of their women folk either.

Think about it; they have NONE of the features that makes a modern religion. Could it be (*gasp*) that atheism is not really a religion?

*faints*

well, the truth is that Mighty Atheiar rules them all with such an Iron fist that they don't dare step out of line, its kinda like the peace that held Yugoslavia together Under Tito, But since atheiar is a god, there is no telling how long this false peace will last.

I wish people who weren't pagans would stop answering questions about paganism. Pagan religions don't address atheism which is the position that there are no supernatural deities. Unlike monotheistic religions, pagan religions don't proselytize. In other words, pagans don't care whether someone else becomes a pagan. I'll try to clear up some of the incorrect claims that have been made here. 1) Paganism and pantheism are not the same thing. 2) Pagans are polytheists who believe in multiple individual distinct deities (gods and goddesses). 3) It is impossible to be both a pagan and an atheist. The person who claimed to be both an atheist and a pagan doesn't have a clue what a pagan is. 4) Pagans do not worship nature. Pagans revere nature. There's a difference. 5) Polytheism is not the belief that flowers have spirits. The person who made this claim doesn't know the difference between animism and paganism. 6) Buddhism isn't a religion. 7) Pagan is a general category for any of a number of nature-based, polytheistic religions. Paleo-pagan refers to ancient pre-Christian nature-based polytheistic religions. Neo-pagan refers to modern versions of ancient nature-based polytheistic religions. Any religion that does not fall into this category is not pagan. For example, strictly speaking, Wicca is not a neo-pagan religion. Wicca is not a modern version of any ancient nature-based religion (despite the claims of many Wiccans) and is not polytheistic. Wicca is duotheistic and teaches that all deities are manifestations of the Goddess. There is no ancient pagan religion that worshipped "the Goddess". Instead, they worshipped many separate, individual, distinct goddesses and gods. Unfortunately, most of the inaccurate information about paganism has been spread by Wiccans. They've even exceeded the misinformation spread by Christians about pagans.

Hmm, could be that. People sometimes say that the belief in the state or man is still atheism, but really it's worshiping ideals just the same as a religion. If you have no god, and you kill someone for having a god, that might fit the description of killing "for atheism". I don't know anyone who has died in order to prove there isn't a god.

However, I have been thinking recently, the "pursuit of truth" and "scientific facts" have killed some people (admittedly not as many as the desire for religious truth). Like it could be argued that Science has killed lots of people, accidentally or in Mengel's experiments kind of thing? I know it's a leap but meh... worth a thought.

That Great Leap Forward didn't seem so peaceful to me.

To say that atheism is at all peaceful is a very one-sided view which ignores an awful lot of history.

The belief that atheists are rational is flawed as well. This view is a product of positivistic materialism. The irony here is that this manner of thinking is more confining that any of the religions which they mock.

I am Catholic, and I am very peaceful. I have friends who are Catholic, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and atheists, and some who profess no religion, yet we get along well, because we have MUTUAL respect for each other. So do not make a presumption by what you read in the news or television. Not all are at war with one another.

Oh Lord...(no pun intended- well, maybe it was slightly intended)

I get what you're trying to say, but please- atheism isn't a religion.

Also, atheist denominations- no such thing. FSM, I personally think, does not come under atheism. Atheism is lack of belief in a God or idol.

Probably the reason is that those atheists do not claim to be all about peace and love, like the perfect religionists. If atheists would only make such a claim, then they would have good reason to promote war and hate like christianity and islam do.

Well I am an atheist and I have far more interesting things than trying to convince other people to become atheist.

To me atheism is not a religion. I just don't believe there is any god. Actually my cat is a god.

Atheism can't really be characterized as a religion, as there is no belief system. I think ideology is the word you're looking for. Also, I hope you're being sarcastic...

thats cause religious people do "good deeds" so they could be accepted and get their reward to go to heaven. its like a dog doing a trick not to entertain his master but to get a treat. atheists on the other hand do good deeds and follow good moral values and ethics in their own will to help other people....

thats why atheism is so peaceful...

    Hurray for atheism
