Why do cats bite........?

Prior to and/or after biting?

Oops forgot to add the word licking lol. Mine always lick then bite and lick again. Sorry to the first few answers.

    Cats normally bite out of defense. Some cats (like mine) are very territorial and thus want to defend their area. The only ways cats know to defend themselves and their territory is by hissing, scratching, biting etc.

    Because you didn't read their body language saying 'back off'. It can be subtle sometimes, but someone who fails to heed it deserves the bite.
