This is why most refining and plastics corporations are looking at recycling projects. It's obvious the community at large wants it and if you hurry to provide it you can boost sales until the other companies catch up.

Source(s): myself: I love the environment, but I'm a realist. * Jamesmom: You should really go to natural fibers and away from the fake stuff. ** Smells like: Nothing he mentioned is made with oil, but with parts of crude oil after it is "cracked". You see, crude oil is filtered and distilled into different fractions of carbon chains, some more waxy and some less. From this comes gasoline, sure, but that is only part. You also get oils you put in your car... diesel... and even what we in the industry call "monomer". Monomer is what is used to make "polymer". And most of the things he listed are made with polymers. JetsunderPA: Read above. Any solution would require a chemical and chances are that chemical would be refined from crude oil. It's not like all the other components after the gas is made are trashed. They actually refine these into other products. *** Note: the only way we will get away from the use of crude oil in the production of plastics and gasoline is by pressuring the auto industry (and others that use gas/chemicals) to use corn or other oils as energy. I work in the chemical and petro industry. It is hard for me to blame crude oil on our problems when I know that if the auto industry and other groups started asking for us to find a use for corn or olive or other lighter oils for energy, we would start researching these right away. Especially if they were to guarantee a contract with us for the supply after development.

Liberals want to Completely Shut Down Oil Drilling and Coal Mines. They are still dreaming about "Alternative Energy" that will Never Happen. It is a HOAX.

Sure - it makes better sense to save that oil for better purposes than burning inefficiently for transportation (heck, we get ~10-15% the potential energy of gasoline in the internal engine. Keep in mind, gasoline is a small, refined and energy-intensive component of oil)

Drill, or ride a bike and stop using products that require oil. Opps, forget that bike. Start walking.

Not only this, but to ship products from point A to B takes oil. Let's face it, oil is a major economic influence, and drilling for oil would make us wealthier; our economy would be stronger.

Doin: So you've lived your life w/o ever using oil? How amazing!

Off shore? yes, we do. Unless they (oil companies) have a way to safely shut down a well if needed. How can you want it after what's going on now in the Gulf? They have no clue how to stop the leak.

    I need yarn, keep drilling

You forgot to include "oil-soaked wildlife" and "the destruction of the Gulf shrimping industry" on your list.

how much of that would of been needed 500 years ago? None of that is needed to keep humanity goin.

how much life was destroyed in the oil rig?
