At what age did you fly with your child?
If under two, how did they do? I am going to take a flight from the bay area to Orange County, so basically an hour and a half total. I have contemplated driving for 6.5 hours, but my son totally gets antsy after 1 hour in the car! Any tips you could suggest and how your trip went? Also give me the length of you trip too please - thanks!
BTW my son will be 20 months when we go, as he is 13 months now - thanks!

My daughter was about 16 months and sat in my lap. She did really well. I made sure she was changed right before boarding and she had as sippy cup to suck on during take off (to help with her ears). I had bought her own little elmo bag that had some stuff from the $1 store so she was able to explore what was in there while we were flying.
Also, I tried to plan times when I knew she would sleep. Very early in the morning and late in the evening. She did sleep during those times. I have flown twice with her (16 mos and 20 mos) and got compliments both times.

Oldest was 2 months when we flew cross country for the first time.
Middle was 4 weeks when we flew cross country (and the oldest was 19 months at that time too) for the first time
Youngest was 4 months when we flew cross country for the first time.
All flights were from Phoenix to the east coast. 7 hours in the air or so. Trips were fine. Young babies are easy to travel with. They want to be fed and to sleep. Older toddlers are the worst. They want to be entertained, and can't understand why they need to stay in their seats. Bribery is totally acceptable on plane rides. Favorite toys, snacks they usually don't get, etc. We fly cross country 2-3 times a year. My kids are now 7, 5.5 and almost 3. We try to get the overnight flight. The kids get on the plane, take off their shoes, and are generally asleep before the plane reaches cruising altitude. For daytime flights, each of the kids has their own travel dvd player, and they know that they can watch more movies if they share (so the batteries don't all die at the same time). If the in-flight movie interests them, they get headsets. Flying isn't a big deal to my kids, they do it a lot, so they don't get uptight or in a frenzy about it.

We flew when he was 6 months. It was about a 4 hour flight with a 2 hour layover. He did pretty well. We took along a favorite toys and some new ones he had never played with to keep him occupied, but he slept the majority of the way.
Tip: Don't even try to change a dirty diaper in the airplane bathroom. The changing table in there is about the size of your hand, there's barely room for you to stand, and the movement of the plane makes it insanely difficult.

I have flown many times with my children and will do so again this summer. Most of the flights are over 6 hours and under 13 so occupying them is a necessity. I would consider getting a colouring book and some crayons, a few puzzles to do together and some story books. Also a supply favourite snacks and you should be fine.

I went to the dollar store and Target for cheap fun gifts and put them in a back pack for our daughter....she was 15 months when we flew with her. I didnt let her see what was in the bag until we were up in the air. We also brought one of those portable DVD players. She watched it for a little bit but was too excited about the cool stuff and snacks in her back pack. Good luck and have fun!!!
Our flight took 3 hours.

2yrs old. we flew from Cali to NY. Our son was great. We brought on board his favorite books, small toys, and finger snacks and juice. He was already potty trained which was a blessing. An hour and a half should be a cake walk. If they have a special attachment to a blanket or stuffed toy make sure you have it. Anything small that you know provides comfort and enjoyment for them should be brought with you on board.

my son was 1 month old when i flew with him. we flew from minnesota to south carolina, one layover. it was almost 10 hours total. loooong time when you have such a little baby with you. it wasn't so bad. he didn't cry or fuss at all. only pain i had was the bathroom at the airport we had the layover in didn't have a diaper changing table so i had to change his diaper on the sink counter, in front of a bunch of strangers. i felt so rude but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. you should be fine with only an hour and a half flight!

Yeah, she was born premature while I was visiting family. We flew when she was a couple months old, that was about an hour, and a four hour flight a couple months after that, and another one a couple months later, and then finally again when she was almost a year.
She nursed and slept.

8 months and up.......she should be fine. all the stuff to look at and the excitement of the trip should keep him busy. Just take the same stuff if you were going to visit your grandma for a few hours.....a book, a fave toy, a snack, etc.
