Question about stripping membranes?
So I have my dr. appt tomorrow morning and I was be 39 weeks and 4 days. I am thinking about asking the dr. to strip me membranes to see if that gives my body that nudge to go into labor. I know it may not do anything, but it is worth a shot.
My question is when I went in last week I was 60% effaced but not dilated. If I am still not dilated (which I hope to be, even just a little!) can they strip the membranes or do you need to be dilated.
Also does it hurt? I've heard conflicting stories and I am guessing it is probably different for each woman.
This is baby #2 for me and she is stubborn, I had my first at 38 weeks!
Thanks everyone!!

I had my membranes stripped and I was not dialated. Unfortunately it didn't help move the process along, but it was worth a shot! I don't remember it hurting - maybe uncomfortable... but at this stage I feel everything is uncomfortable!
Good luck!

You have to be a couple of cm dilated so they can at least get a finger in there. As for whether it hurts, it is slightly painful and uncomfortable, but no where near excruciating. Don't worry, it only lasts a few seconds. And just so you know, even though you didn't ask, I ended up having my girl 3 days after my membranes were stripped, but it had to be a c-section because only the water broke and I wasn't dilating any more.

hi, I had my membranes stripped 2 days in the past, on my due date. i became in straightforward terms a million cm dilated and were that way for a week. a million. I won't lie, for me it harm relatively badly, yet in straightforward terms for a short 2nd. After that it became in straightforward terms slightly sore for the remainder of the day. 2. 40 8 hours and counting, and not a single contraction... i heard it induces hard artwork in a million out of three women. So those are respectable odds. 3. If it works in any respect, you're meant to be in hard artwork interior of 40 8 hours. 4. it relatively is in straightforward terms meant to detach the water bag, yet for some people it definitely breaks the water bag. (it relatively isn't this style of undesirable element nevertheless, in my opinion!) good success!!
