Orange star in the north west very very odd. question with true UFO story too...?
Hi all, This is going to sound completely nuts but please hear me out, everything I am saying is true. On the 4th May this year me and my family saw orange lights in the sky. They looked as though they could have been chinese lanterns and they flew silently, but they were too fast and flew in separately before flying in formation, first triangular which is when they went very high and they into an arrow head when two more joined them. This occured at 22:30 and lasted until about 22:45. 10 days before, a gentleman who lives just down the road filmed the same phenomenon on his mobile, here is the link

A few days before we noticed an orange star in the night sky and it has been there since. However, at roughly 23:30 each night, it disappears with no trace of cloud in the sky. What do you all think this is? and is there a connection? i'm not saying lets all get out the tinfoil hats and I'm not throwing in the word alien, only that it has been unidentified.
I have witnessed this all from Winchester, Hampshire, England.
Hi Raymond, that was my original thought too but the ISS has already passed over us and won't be coming around again in a while, where we are, it is a rare thing as that got media coverage. This is a fixed object in the sky until 23:30, like I said, has the same orange light as the other objects and doesn't move through the night sky like the moon does, it appears as though a static object.
The reason I said it wasn't chinese lanterns yet lasted 15 minutes was because the 5 objects showed up at different points during those 15 minutes however they seemed to be able to speed up, slow down and move in formation. There is a military base near by however when I googled this, these objects have also been spotted in india, china, the USA and a famous one during a news report in london

Because of the rate at which it crosses the sky, it looks like a large satellite.
Perhaps it was the International Space Station. In the evening, it is lit by the Sun (even though the Sun is below the horizon form your position, the station, in orbit at 400 km, is still being lit).
As it moves Eastward, it does get slightly yellower (and more orange-colored) as the sunlight has to cross more and more atmosphere to reach it (it is being lit by the Sun which, for them, is setting as they pass over your position).
Then at some point, before it reaches the eastern horizon, the station enters Earth's shadow. It turns noticeably red for a few seconds, then disappears.
When the shuttle (or a Russian capsule) approaches the station, they can be seen as "flying" in formation.
---
The description I gave works for any satellite that orbit in the normal fashion (west to east). However, the ISS and the shuttle do tend to appear very bright as they are quite large and fitted with large reflective surfaces (the solar panels for the ISS and the opened bay doors for the shuttle).
---
There were intelligent beings in both of them and, since they were not from the United Kingdom, then they would have been "aliens".
---
In the video, the jiggling is due to the person holding the camera. Once you subtract the jiggling (possible to do when there is a solid object in the frame -- house or light standard), the movement is smooth and at the proper rate for a satellite.

I personally don't know what to say. If it is (and i'm not saying it is or isn't) it could just be an observation but for how long the UFO records exist (since ancient times) observing would be pointless. The Military works on all kinds of crazy crap, we don't hear about most of it until it's out of date. Meaning when we hear about a "new" plane, the military is already working on a new plane by then. We know that being able to hover or levitation is possible but we have not really perfected it. I've read articles that you can use a spinning gyroscope with Mercury (I think that was the element mentioned) and it creates levitating properties so we know it's possible and we've tested it, but I do not believe large scale tests have been done. It has something to do with magnetic fields and such, I didn't bother to read all of it. Anyways, point being, maybe it is a UFO or maybe it isn't. The ISS "could" have been it or it could be military testing. Most people will never "truly" know what the Military (US, UK, etc) works on and by time we hear about it they are already one aircraft ahead of the one they just showed us.

The video looks like an aircraft or satellite passing over.
It actually looks very much like the ISS, so I'm willing to bet your friend has got the date wrong. I'm also willing to bet that his house faces east because that's the direction in which the ISS moves.
The orange lights sound to me like Chinese lanterns. If they were visible for 15 minutes, they can't have been moving very fast.
The object in the north west is very likely the planet Venus. If there is no cloud in the sky, then it would be very difficult not to see Venus if you look in that direction. If you mark its position carefully with reference to a fixed object on the ground, you should find that it isn't static but moves slowly downwards and to the right. Currently, it sets at about 2345.

Yes, I have a true story of a sighting that was during a clear day and I viewed this craft for well over an hour and questioning whether it was closer to 3 hours. I saw this craft at close range, no sound and very very large. If you are interested in only TRUE stories, I at anytime would volunteer for a polygraph if there was any question about my account of the sighting or integrity

DUDE!!!!
If it is a flying object, and it is unidentified, it is indeed a UFO. That is all there is to something being a UFO.
