Rescued abandoned 3 week old kitten just a few minutes ago..what can I feed him?
He's crying for food, but I don't have anything he can eat and there's no way for me to get kitten formula.....I have to keep him safe until tomorrow so I can get him to the vet/animal shelter.....
I have a dropper so I was thinking I should at least give him some water because he seems to be very dehydrated....but I wanted some other ideas..
Also, he's having trouble breathing through one or maybe even both of his nostrils (one was clogged with "gunk", but I cleared it up.....he's making the sounds that we'd make if we had a stuffed nose..)
He has a shut eye that I tried cleaning a little, too (I got the "crusties" off of it), but it's still shut - I'm assuming that's just from his age, though...
I've helped my cat raise kittens before, but this is different...he has no mom to feed him!
I can't let my cat feed him because we've dealt with Feline Leukemia before from the cats outside (there's a lot of strays out there, but no one will come out to help them.....) :(
What can I do???

The closest thing to mummy cat milk is the milk you would feed to human babies because it has less lactose in it. The best way to do it is wrap the kitten in a little towel or something and get the kitty to drink from a syringe full of baby milk, you'll be feeding every two hours or so. Hold the kitten on your chest so his head is up on your chest the reason for wrapping him is because it causes less stress because he's not wriggling all over the place.I think you can actually get little dinky bottles for feeding kittens as well.

You can't give him water because it can go to his lungs and cause more trouble rather than help him. If possible to get to a store that is open 24 hours, you need to get some kitten formula. If not, keep him warm until morning and hope for the best. Find a small box and put a heating pad on LOW with a thick towel folded up over the heating pad. Then drape a towel over the top of the box. This is what I had to do with a kitten that I rescued when he was only a week old; it really soothed him.

Cow milk is not a good permanent idea. Kittens wouldn't normally drink cows milk (obviously), and it doesn't have the nutrients they need. You can continue to feed it warmed (luke-warm) cow milk until you can get to the store to get kitten formula. They generally sell kitten formula in the pet section of ANY grocery store (they even had it at the grocery store in MY tiny town!) Kitten-proof the house, or find a way to close off a closet (not completely, but enough so it can't climb out right now. This is not a lasting fix, because it will find a way out when it gets old enough). Obviously, you need the basic stuff, like litterbox/food for when it can eat solid food/water. It's not yet at the point where it can live off solid food, but you should start offering it wet food soon, so it can sniff it and start to eventually get the idea that it can eat it. The litterbox should NOT have clay litter at this point, because the kitten could eat it and choke. Use torn up paper, then move on to clay litter/your regular litter when it knows what the litterbox is for. You can't expect it to know immediately what the litterbox is for, because you will have to teach it a little bit; to do so, place the kitten in the litterbox and move its front paws around in a 'digging' or 'scratching' motion. My kittens figured it out right after that and were all too happy to have a place to go, but it might take longer. If you feel the need to chastise the kitten for not going in the box, do so verbally, and not physically, please xD The kitten will also need a warm place to sleep; if you have a box, just cut a 'mouse-hole' in it and fill it with old towels (careful there isn't any hanging threads!! the kitten could strangle itself or ingest them, and that would, of course, be bad!). The box should not be just in the middle of the room, but off in a corner of the room/enclosure, for more security. Make sure you are feeding it every few hours, however much it wants. Kittens need lots of good nutrients to grow properly! ...Did I get everything? XD LOVE. Lots and lots of love :)

For a kitten, goat milk is the best substitute for a mother's milk if KMR (kitten formula) is not available. I don't know if you have access to that? But the problem is if he can't breathe very well it's a really big deal. I'd drive him to a SPCA or rescue that would be able to give him immediate attention. At such a young age, he's not able to survive as long if there's a serious problem like he may otherwise.
There is one thing you can try to clear his lungs up... Get your bathtub running very, very hot (shower works too). I mean, to the point where it is steaming. Just let it go right down the drain, but keep your bathroom door closed and put him on a blanket or towel on the floor in your bathroom. The steam may clear up if it's not serious. If it doesn't clear up, that means it could be a severe issue and he definitely needs to go somewhere to get help ASAP. I would alert wherever you take him of as many symptoms or behaviors as possible. Good luck! Feel free to contact me at fluff.photography@yahoo.com if you have any further questions.

Hi, my cat just had a litter of kittens that will be a month old in two days...and a few days ago I fed one of the kittens real food. What I did was soaked regular cat food in water until it was soggy, and then left it out to see if any of them were interested. Only one really liked it, and had no problem eating or any digestive problems after. So three weeks isn't too young to feed, I have just proved that. The kitten you have will probably be more interested in the food than my kittens because there isn't a mom to feed it. Good luck!

what ever you do donot give him cows milk! he cannot digest it and it could kill him. you can give him some lukewarm water dont give cold this will cause a tummy ache. to give him water properly without getting ne into his lungs take the dropper and give him 2 drops at a time wait for him to swollow before offering more never squirt large amounts into his mouth of anything as he could inhale it and die. if you have a can of evaporated milk or some powderd milk water them down a bit before offering that also warmed. you could also give hime a little bit of corn syrup mixed with water for energy. theese are all temporary solutions of coarse so be sure to get him some proper formula within the next 2 days good luck!
P.s no water will NOT kill him unless you get it into his lungs, i have taken in orphans and raised them and they all can take water the vet even will reccomend giving water to raise the body tempeture and to help re-hydrate them like i said put on to two drops not squirts onto his tongue not down his throat watch him swollow then do another drop. tomorrow if you take him into the vets office they will tell you water is fine but dont fill his tummy up with it once his tummy starts looking or feeling distended or bloated stop too much will give him a tummy ache. stop just before his tummy looks bloated.

Popularly known as "Kitty Glop" among breeders, it is packed with nutrition for orphaned kittens, nursing mother cats and their babies, cats recuperating from illness, and older cats who need nutritional supplementing or who have difficulty eating because of dental or gum problems.
Some recipes call for canned goats milk; if you have it readily available it's fine, otherwise canned ¹evaporated cows' milk works well. The recipe sets up to a gelatin-like consistency in the refrigerator, and can be stored there for up to two weeks. It can also be frozen in an ice tray for convenience in serving. To serve, warm to room temperature. Do not pour back unused portions into the mix.
12oz of water
1 envelope Knox Gelatin
1 12oz can of whole evaporated milk (not skim)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons plain yogurt, not nonfat
Boil the water, add the gelatin - stir well. Add the following ingredients in order, mixing well after each addition:
1/2 of the canned milk
mayonnaise and yogurt
the rest of the milk
Variations include the addition of kitty vitamins, acidophalus, and/or pureed baby food meat such as lamb, chicken, or beef. I have seen variations with two egg yolks added, but I would caution against this, due to the risk of salmonella with raw eggs. For very easy mixing, you can use a blender at low speed, but I also like a bowl with a wire whisk.
¹Many older cats have difficulty digesting cows' milk. The acidophalus may help with this, but you might want to try mixing a very small amount to test on your older kitty first.

Your gonna have to choose the death of a kitten or buying the kitten formula and bottle for him.He can't take water he is to young and it will badly injure him or kill him.If you have to take him to the vet. It's your chose to let this kitten go or not.
