The FelV virus is very fragile, and can't live outside the body for more than a few hours. Still, I'd toss the toys and other cheap items like bowls and litter boxes, as I'd always be wondering.

Sorry your cat died. There is a new, fuzzy angel in Heaven right now watching you. One question though: why do you want to keep the same cat toys? Can you not get new ones? I would simply throw them away- as FLV is extremely contagious, and just get more. And really, cats don't know if a toy is bought or a 'good' or expensive one; a cat is happy with a balled up piece of paper and string. They just want attention, praise and love from you and they're happy. Just be safe and throw them away.So I take it you have a new cat? Good for you. My cat (my son) died May 4th, 2003 and I still can't bring myself to get a new cat or kitten- as much as I adore them. Good luck.

To be on the safe side,I would wrap them in three grocery bags and throw them away after saturating them in rubbing alcohol.
