I'm getting a kitten next month. Question, do kittens cry for their mamas at night?

I just want to have everything ready for her, its been 11 yrs since I had a kitten, I don't remember if he did. Thanks.

Update:

Cat lover: Thanks for the article, its been a long time since I had a kitten.

It depends. Some do and some don't. If they are really young then they are more likely to. Your kitten probably will but not a lot. That often seems to be the case. Good luck and have fun with your new kitten!! :)

They may cry, and may cry in the nighttime since that is when kittens (and cats) are often most active. But the crying will be more related to being in a new surrounding, then missing their mother.

I am giving a link to an article on introducing a new kitten into your home. There are suggestions of things to get, but I ignore a bed (they find their own spot) and Feliway is rare if ever needed.

Just remember, kittens get into and onto everything, so make sure your place is child proofed. Anything you would not want a human baby getting into applies to a kitten.

And if it is has been 11 years, fasten your seat belt. You may have forgotten just how much energy they have, but that is part of the joy.

Some kittens are noisy and some are not. If the kitten meows a lot, just pet her and talk sweet to her. She will get used to you in a day or two and not meow so much. A lot of cats like to stay up some of the night and sleep some during the day.

I brought my kitten home at 7 1/2 weeks, I put her litter box and food & water in my bedroom, (Arm and Hammer litter has no smell) She curled up beside me and never cried once.

And yes that is far too young, but the breeder said she was taking the litter mates to a pet store and I had already put a deposit on the kitten, did not want to lose it. Cats are very clean, get her shots, and her rabies shot when she is four pounds and you will have a little friend for it's life. The purring will put you right to sleep.

It may, more likely out of loneliness than anything else. If you have another pet or kitty it won't feel so alone. Think about it, momma, brothers and sisters, then all alone. Some extra attention from you will make it feel loved and not so lonely and it will adjust as all cats do. Just make sure you get your kitten after it is time for it to leave its mom, which I believe is 12 weeks.

They will sometimes; it all depends on the temperament of the kitten. The best way to prevent this is to make sure they are warm and make sure they are not hungry before bedtime. Give them a lot of extra attention and touch. Congrats on your new kitten!

Depends on the kitten, mine never did.

It depends on how old the kitten is
