Connecting a washing machine to the water supply?
I have bought a new washing machine and it says it's water supply is 'cold fill'. Does this mean the machine will then heat the water itself? I have two water feed pipes that were attached to the old machine (one hot, one cold) but only one going into the machine itself. Have I bought the wrong type of machine or is this normal? What goes where?! Thanks

Not really the wrong type of machine - just a different type of machine. Some have hot and cold fill and some have cold only. Even a hot and cold fill machine will have an electric heater in it to raise the water to the higher temperature on some wash settings.
Yes your cold fill machine will use electricity to heat the water - but the water from a hot water feed has to be heated somehow (gas or electric) so it's swings and roundabouts on costs - you either pay to heat water in a large tank or in your washing machine.
just connect only the cold feed pipe (usually blue) and leave the hot red one turned off and disconnected.

If there is only one inlet to the machine it must cold fill only. Just connect the cold supply to it, and turnm the hot supply off. Problems come if you have only a cold supply but hot and cold inlets on the machine. You then need an adapter. Water may come out of the hot inlet if it is not also connected. Cold only supply machines will use more electric as they have to warm the water up first.

yes, this particular washer heats its own water. with your old washer you had @ hoses, as a rule of thumb, hot is always on the left and cold on the right (unless it was installed by a dyslexic contractor). just hook up the cold line to the washer and you're good to go. hope this helps.
