At what age did you transition your child to Toddler bed?

Hi there,

Just wondering at what age you moved your child from a crib to a toddler bed? My son is just turning 1, so I know it's not now, but I'm thinking future and furniture for next year b/c we are going to ttc #2 towards the end of the summer.

Thanks

Update:

The reason I'm thinking toddler bed over a twin or full is b/c more than likely they will share a room for a few months. (lets hope I have another boy), I have a spare room, but I enjoy having it as a playroom and don't want to go back to having toys all over the livingroom...

My son is 15 months and has bee in his toddler bed for 3 weeks now and he absolutley loves it and i love him being in it too. I too am pregnant with #2 and im very glad i was able to do the transition now, im due in november and wanted him in it before the baby was here and it worked out very well. I dont think its such a waste of money because hes not even one and a half yet so he will be in it a lot longer then say putting a baby in it when they are 2 or 2 1/2 so you will at least get a few years out of it which i dont think is a waste of money!

I say t switch him soon not right now you can wait a couple more months but no need to wait a another year or anything!

    Good luck

My son is almost 2 1/2, and he loved his crib. Never climbed out or anything. But now we have #2 on the way, and we wanted him to forget about his crib, so just put him right in a regular Twin. He did great and loves it, and now we have the crib for the next one.

Me personally, I didn't feel the need for a toddler bed, it is just an extra expense that they grow out of. Wait a bit more and go right to a Twin. I bought a side rail for rolling out protection, and it is great.

  • im preggers with #2 due in dec. my first son will be 2 in jan. we are skipping the toddler bed bcuz our pediatrician said its a waste of money because you will just need to purchase a twin bed in a year. plus we alrready have the twin bed. but he will be in his "big boy bed" around 2 years old because we a re using his crib for our newborn. we are going to put the mattress on top of the box spring on the floor without a frame so he can climb into it.thenhave it pushedagains the wall on one side and have the guard on the other side so he cant fall out. my babies will also share a room. but if we werent having another one, his crib converts into a toddler bed and i would havelet him stayed in it aslong as he wants.

what I was told was when the baby climbs out of the crib. My son was right about 2, we moved him to a toddler bed about a month later.

My son is 15 months old and i am hoping to put him in his Thomas bed at Christmas he will almost be 2. Unless your baby is climbing out, then they don't need to go into one too early, i would say 2 the earliest, some babies climb out and it is dangerous so they need to change beds. If your baby doesn't climb i would wait till 2. Hope this helps :)

never -waste of money. set up a bed in the room next to the crib, lower the crib rails, and within 2 weeks, you can remove the crib.

As soon as they started crawling out of their cribs. I went ahead and just got twin beds to save money and time. You will have to upgrade later anyways.
