My new roommate has an indoor cat that he doesn't bathe, should I ask him to wash it every month?

I'm worried about smell.. will it smell if he does not wash it?

I have never understood why people bathe cats. Most cats do it themselves. That aside, wait awhile and see if the lack of bathing smells. If it does then raise the issue with your roommate.

Cats clean their self quite well and never smell but they do need to be brushed every day because of hair ball and also because hair will get on the furniture.

If he has a litter box then that will tend to smell at times and he will need to change that more often if is tends to bother you. The litter box may need to be cleaned out each day too. But the cat will not smell but they really have stinky litter boxes.

Cats wash themselves and remain clean. Bathing cats causes their skin to dry out and become very sensitive. If your roommate's cat starts to emit a strange or unpleasant odor than tell your roommate to take him for a visit to the vet, it could be an infection.

People have to shower, we wash our clothes, we wash our cars, However there is no reason to bathe your cat--as you indicated, you cat is an indoor cat, and grooms himself, and your dog! Only dogs require baths, not cats---it is cruel, and very unkind, to do so---the only time I had to bathe my cats was after a long road trip---and I did it with love and compassion---Cats are the cleanest animals around, and sometimes much cleaner than people---kitty only has one outfit to wear, and he will keep himself clean----no need to bathe your cat---Have a great Day--

No. Cats are very clean - they wash themselves. I've never washed my cats, and never had a problem with smell in 15 years.

    Cats are self-cleaning.

Sometimes, if they get something very sticky or harmful spilled on them, they may need to be bathed, but for the most part, cats never need a bath.

That's why they lick themselves all of the time.

No, Cats clean themselves. As long as the litter box is clean there should be no problem.

Cats clean themselves, they won't need a bath like dogs do so don't worry. =)

It may start smelling, although it may not. If it smells bring it up, and tell him he has to wash it. If it doesn't, let it be.
