What's the last thing CD you listened to that you thought would be awful but ended up surprising you?

I'm finally getting around to ripping my roommate's CD collection (really a collection between her, her older sisters, and their friends...about 400 CDs) to her computer and I've run across some pretty good stuff. There's a lot of older hip hop and rock albums in there that I've been wanting to listen to. Anyway the last one I popped in was called "From The Woods to the Hood". Sounds like a real winner right? I expected something terrible and home-made in the vein of Lil Boosie or something. It was pretty enjoyable though!

The first track was a love song by Wyclef that started off with "I wanna send this one out to my vanilla ice cream chocolate puddin pie..." "Yeah this one goes out to my Almond Joy, my banana that never split, the one that stuck with me" which, sure, is definitely cheesy but made me smile (and hungry...). It really started off the feel-good, funny feel of the album. The album also included one of my favorite songs by both OutKast and Kanye. Sure there were a few stupid or generic songs, but overall I was very surprised.

So when's the last time something similar has happened to you, and what album was it?

BQ: Last album you looked forward to that met (or exceeded) your expectations?

BQ2: Last album that totally disappointed you or just plain sucked?

Now, on to what appears to be a self-made mixtape with "Black Hoes" scrawled over it....heh......

Update:

"the last thing CD"

lol

Update 2:

I've heard a few BLB songs that are cool, keep meaning to bump that album up higher on my "To Listen" list but eh I'm so lazy.

Update 3:

BA: Alicia Keys - The Element of Freedom

BA2: Leona Lewis - Spirit

Update 4:

That's funny Baron, because I didn't like that album :p it sure had a lot of variety in the music though, I'll give it that.

Update 5:

Douglas - Same here, not his best but I thought it had some good songs. I like "Won't Back Down", "Going Through Changes", "Love The Way You Lie", and "No Love" the best, I think.

    Symbolic - Death

At the time, I wasn't a fan of death metal, and I honestly couldn't stand those scratchy vocals. However, it looked quite good, and had gotten a lot of love from some of my friends and many critics. I decided to download it from iTunes. Damn, was I suprised! Not only is it one of my personal favorite Death albums, and possibly the best, but it also will go down in my books as one of the best albums ever. With Crystal Mountain and 1000 Eyes, two of the best songs ever.

BQ: Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath I knew it would be great, but it has already become one of my favorite albums and I've only listened to it for a day XD Next stop, Paranoid!

BQ2: Endgame - Megadeth It was a good album (did NOT suck), but it disappointed me. I loved some of the songs, but the solos were overused and the song structure seemed a little odd to me. It was more disappointing than bad. I would recommend almost anything from KIMB to Countdown over it.

The new Danzig album, Deth Red Sabaoth, after a couple of so so albums, and a 6 year hiatus I wasn't expecting much, turns out they made their best album since Danzig 3: How the Gods Kill.

BQ: Deftones: Diamond Eyes, I knew the album was gonna be good when I heard both Rocket Skates and Diamond Eyes.

BQ2: We Are The Fallen: Tear the World Down, it hasn't grown on me yet, it might end up being one of those albums that grows on me eventually.

Really you should talk to a lawyer, to be sure what laws have been violated and what you should do. Also he should give all the gifts back. He doesnt need them and they are a constant reminder of infedelity in the marriage. Mabey if she gets the gifts back she will go away, because she will be satisfied. Talk to her again. Dont laugh at her. Be sincere and tell her you love your husband and you are a family and are going to always stay together. Tell her that she is being a homewrecker and needs to find a man who doesnt already have a women. Also do go to counceling with him. If you love each other and are determined to work it out you have to adress your problems. Dont let him off the hook to easily. Make him prove he is trustworthy. Good luck. You are a strong women who has endured much. It will get harder before it gets easier.

The White Album by the Beatles. I was kind of scared of that CD at first because I heard part of Helter Skelter a while back, and I didn't like it because it was different. But I'm listening to it right now on my iPod and I love it :D and also, I heard a lot of bad reviews about others songs on there like Revolution 9 and stuff.

    The Residents - "Duck Stab/Buster & Glen"

A few days ago I decided to try and give them another try even though I had hated most of what I heard before. I actually liked one of the songs I heard so Erowid recommended I listen to that album and I loved that too. I didn't know if I was going to love it or hate it at that point. I honestly have no idea how it happened but now I like them lol

BQ: Eluveitie - "Everything Remains As It Never Was"

BQ2: High On Fire - "Omen"

probably 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Flaming Lips with Stardeath and White Dwarfs. For one, it's 'Dark Side of the Moon,' which many consider holy, much less coverable. But surprisingly, Flaming Lips put their own spin on it, so much so that few parts of any song sound even remotely identical to Floyd's versions. As opposed to someone like Les Claypool who just simply did an 'Animals' cover verbatim, Flaming Lips create an entirely different monster and I liked that.

    BQ: 'Plastic Beach' - Gorillaz

BQ2: 'Thank Me Later' - Drake. had to see what the 500,000 people who bought the record knew that I didn't. Being a hip-hop fan, I humbly have to say that I literally felt retarded afterwards, and terribly sad that kids think this is good rap. the new Roots record should have sold 500,000

"Cruel Melody" by Black Light Burns.

It's an industrial rock band started by the former bassist of Limp Bizkit, Wes Borland. I thought it was going to be terrible, considering the original band of the guy that started it, but I was genuinely surprised to find that a lot of the songs were actually very good and had no traces of rap at all.

BA1: "Crack the Skye" by Mastodon. Amazing album from an amazing band.

    BA2: Haven't found one yet.

I thought that Standing on the Shoulder of Giants by Oasis was going to be terrible because of all the bad reviews but i quite liked it.

BQ: Total Life Forever - Foals

    BQ2: Contra - Vampire Weekend

I was listening to Recovery by Eminem yesterday; it really wasn't that bad, it was actually pretty good.

    BQ: Furniture+2 by Fugazi

BQ2: Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight. The other one would be Minor Threat's Complete Discography because I was disappointed that I wasted more money and bought my FOURTH copy of it a few weeks ago.
