What are resources for help in paying for power chair if true Soc Sec pays only 50%?
My husband has serious back & leg problems from being struck by a cement truck and did not choose a good lawyer or get a good settlement. Our only income is Social Security (mine is retirement, his disability). We are just over $50 above Medicaid limits. Dr says he needs power chair. can not use manual wheelchair due to arm injury. Only insurance is Medicare. Man who works for power chair co told him Medicare only pays 50%. Is that true - I thought it was normally 80%. Has anyone had experience finding resources to pay for part Medicare does not pay on power chair or scooter?
Additional info we live in a rural area where no Medicare advantage plans are available and can not afford regular medicare supplements.
Listen to the commercial again it "may be free with your medicare and medicare supplement insurance" AARP offers Medicare supplements not programs to get something w/o supplement we have checked. The supplements are about $200 a month. We just plain do not have $200 a month. The drs say he can not be left alone so I can not just go out and get a job. I had a very good work at home job subcontracting for a co and their contract ended which of course ended the subcontracting. At that point he did not need a power chair and we did not know he would fall again and injure his arm. His medical bill co-pays pretty much ate savings. The chairs propelled with one hand are power chairs not manual wheelchairs. You can move a manual chair a short ways one handed or taking a cane and using it like a boat pole but that is not practical beyond a few yards. Like a boat with one oar it goes in curves.

I would find a new wheelchair company. Medicare does pay for 80%. However, if he has medicare/medicaid then the rules would be different.

Word Aliens is referred to both legal and illegal immigrants. The legal immigrants do pay all type of taxes as any other American do, but illegal immigrants do not pay any tax. They might pay in someone else name. I lived in USA for 8 years and I have my social security statement. If I don't get permanent residency I will not get any benefit even I am 65. And many legal immigrants return to their home country without getting any benefit. All US residents are immigrants some came over there 300 years ago and some came 1 day ago. The hate against any one will not make America strong. So just be happy and try your best to stay togather as a true American Thanks Bhawani Gupta

he should enroll in a medicare advantage plan to supplement medicare check

create a user name and password, search for plans available in your area you won't be able to enroll until open enrollment but it helps to do the research, call the companies (I always use zero premium medicare advantage plans) find out if they cover durable medical equipment and whether or not they can help.
