Please help, my cat is scared out of its wits...?
My cat vanished for a few days, and she recently came back after I called for her for about half an hour. She was obviously on edge about something, and kept looking at our driveway and flattening her ears, dropping into a defensive posture. I fed her some milk, and then played with her in the garden for a bit, but she suddenly stopped, flipped around to face the gate by the driveway, growled, hissed, and took off. I saw another cat there, much bigger, and VERY mangy-looking. I hissed at it and threw my shoe into a nearby spirea, which frightened it off. Eventually my cat came back, and I've stuck her in my basement for now with a bed, liter-box and food. But she hates being indoors, so I'd like to get rid of that nasty cat somehow. Does anyone have any tips? My father wants to shoot it, but I'd rather resolve the situation without killing anything.
She's spayed =( I think this cat is just a jerk
Georgia: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing; I would hate to kill someone's pet.
Dragongly: I have no idea; our crazy neighbor feeds strays, and they breed and breed and breed. It might be one of his. He had thirty cats at one time; I think someone stepped in and confiscated many of them.

Well, first of all, before I answer your actual question, please PLEASE do NOT give your cat milk anymore! I know a lot of people think that milk is a great 'treat' for cats, but adult cats actual have lactose intolerance and milk can cause them to get upset stomachs, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
OK now on to my answer. From the description of your story, it sounds as if your cat has probably gotten into a few fights with that cat and is uneasy about it being around her territory. Cats are very territorial animals, just like their wild ancestors. When we had an outside cat he was constantly getting into tussles with either other people's pet cats or feral cats.
There are products available at pet stores such as Petco and Petsmart that you can sprinkle all around your yard to keep unwanted animals away, I'm not really sure if they actually work or not, but they claim to.
Honestly the best thing to do is have an indoor cat. Outdoor cats contribute largely to the deaths of songbirds and other important creatures, and they also cause a lot of heartbreak when they get hit by cars (which sadly happened to mine). Although from the sounds of it, it is too late to make your cat an inside cat since you said she loves the outdoors. Either way, I would suggest calling your local shelter and asking them to try and pick up the animal because it is stressing your kitty out. I hope for the best for you and your kitty!!

I would keep your cat indoors and try to catch the other cat in a cat crate or something. If you can contact some sort of local shelter, they may be willing to help. If you do manage to catch the cat, I would take a picture of it and post signs up saying you found it and took it to a local shelter. That way if it was a pet if the owner cared they would look for it. If you can't catch it and you see it again, I would make sure that your dad doesn't see it. Also, if you can't get rid of the cat, I would keep your cat indoors, she will learn to like it. Play with her and pet her more when she is indoors so that she will want to stay in. Hope I helped!

Doing the Ethically Correct thing you could listen to your father
he sounds like a responsible person!
The other cat needs some self protection a
touch of solitary might keep him amused ?
Until he mends his ways!
Perhaps it even needs another Cat scan
they must have missed it's sharp claws.
Perhaps it's owner could care for it a touch more ?
And blunt-en its claws( Round )so it can't fight ?
With a small nail file ?
Before another Catastrophe occurs ?
Best Wishes.

Is that mangy-looking cat a stray cat? Do you have an animal rescue shelter you can ring and ask to collect the cat?
Sorry, I've never owned a cat. so I don't know much about them...

Hello Dude!
we can feel animals and know what they want! especially you lived with her and you know her body language and what she wants!
I believe you really take a good care of her and even love her!, she definitely feels safe and happy with you with all what you do to her.
When you open the door of the cage for the bird do you think the bird would stay in? no, of course. will fly away and will be the happiest for the freedom!
there are many reasons though! maybe she wants freedom. to go out and come back in. that what cats like to do. because she can't find everything in your house with you. you can lock her up but she won't be happy, you can give her the freedom to go out and in anytime but that might make her leave. it's her life, she's an animal with feelings and all love freedom, to love, to make sex to find a partner. but i hope that mangy looking cat isn't her partner :)
and i know that cats aren't as faithful as dogs towards us. but they have needs. and you have 2 choices.
Either you lock her in that room for a long time so she forgets about the outer world, forgets her desires and freedom. but that would make her so desperate! or "even though it hurts" you let her go and do what whatever she wants. but believe me she will come back to you for the kind care she found with you.
you can steal the bullets so your father won't shoot her! :)
it's good to know you're kind and nice towards animals.
take care dude!

you can try asking the neighbors if they own or feed that cat and if they do tell them about the prob or call the aspca and have them take it away. also until you fix the prb put your cat on a leash and harness so she wont run off again and get hurt. my friends cat did and got all cut up. good luk

Is your cat spayed? If not then she is probabl in heat and that is why she disappeared and why the other cat is hanging around. It is probably a tom cat. Getting your cat spayed would ensure no other cats bother her and also prevent unwanted litters.

call animal control to get the cat?
our street has a few big mangy cats that tackle ours, maybe yours just got in a small fight with him? he probably thinks that she is 'trespassing' his 'property' or just is trying to tell her that he's the alpha. try to keep your cat away from him, though. don't let your dad 'take care' of him, just let animal control do the job.

Buy a puppy. Teach your cat to get along with it.
When it grows up it will chase the other cats from the yard.
