battery problems 2001 jimmy?

my battery died in my 2001 jimmy i went to start it and it made clicking noise and lights on dash flicked fast the check engine abs and the like and when i went to take key out of ignition the ignition would not turn off all the way to permit me to remove key i have replaced the battery put jimmy in neutral after starting and now when i go to start it is like the ignition switch is stuck and does not want to turn yes the steering wheel is straight after a couple attempts to start vehicle it will turn over no problem could this be my ignition switch and how hard how much to replace or could it be something else caused from the battery when battery went dead you could smell battery acid and it smelled hot

    the lock cylinder could be the problem. if you can not turn the car off all the way, the battery will drain. the constant drain could also explain the hot battery. with out looking at it, that is as much as i can say. feel free to get back to me if you have more questions.

    All I can do is tell you I had a problem like that in my car. The 2 problems were not related. The battery went dead and the ignition swicth was bad so I had to get both.

    You have a short in your system that is why the battery got hot. You need a mechanic to check for the short.
