Is it sheer hypocrisy for a Labour MP to accept a peerage?

For a socialist MP - yes. As Labour have not been anything resembling socialist for decades - no.

Is John Prescott a hypocrite? Some of us on the Left would argue that people like him and others who supported the "New labour" Project jettisoned all principle for the rewards of power.

What I do think stinks of hypocrisy is David Milliband, supposedly a Brownite loyalist, slagging off neoliberal Brown while giving a Keir Hardie memorial lecture.

Considering they all disassociate themselves from opinions of those that have peerages while in their own political careers - it is sheer 'hypocrisy' when they change their attitude when offered one and then accept it.

There have been many in the past - from all parties - that have 'changed their tune' when offered one at the end of their careers. So I suppose the 'ex ships steward' was not going to let this 'last opportunity' pass him by.

And these are people who expected the publics faith in them to remain forever - when in reality the public 'saw through them' (MP's) a long while ago while still in their careers.!!

Anything goes in politics now - theres no shame when found out on any issue - no disgrace - no guilt felt by them at all - and no remorse.

Its called politics and democracy - that just being a pipe dream for all the voters/public.

I asked a similar question because growing up in a Labour Party supporting household I stupidly believed that some of these people had integrity and principles. Well, I was very young. The likes of Prescott,Kinnock,Blair and the rest are hypocrites to be polite as I can think of far worse names for them and are a disgrace to the Labour movement.

You dare mention Labour and hypocrisy in the same sentence, how dare you. The only Political Party in the western world that appeals to the working class and then betrays them, now that is hypocrisy.

  • In the case of Presa absolutely, but come to think of it since Labour have campaigned against the Tories as Tory Toffs and used that as a disparaging label then yes they are all hypocrites.

What really amazes me, is when these two faced wonders, who claim to come from the working mans back ground, than claim to represent them with in their party, suddenly find it necessary to abandon that support, having become millionaires on the back of the working class and than join the privileged who are supported for the rest of their lives, yes you have guessed it by the Tax Payer.

Prescott in his regalia looked like what I expected....."Dopey" from Snow white and the seven Dwarfs.

Kinnock,Martin,Mandelson, Blair etc (What a joke)

I'm a Labour supporter and yes I do think it hypocritical. Prezza didn't look very happy about it and I suspect he gave into his wife who was dead keen on becoming a Lady.

It speaks volumes about the sincerity, honesty and integrity of the Labour movement!
