Yugo M70 (AK-47) handguard problem.?
I recently Purchased a Yugo M70 under-folder with the black plastic handguards. This week i finally got a chance to go to the range and try it out. My girlfriend and I each fired a 40 round magazine (total of 80 shots). We used Russian Brown Bear ammo and waited 3 to 5 seconds between shots. After we had finished the handguard had become so hot that I could not handel it and put it back on the rack.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anyway i can reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the handguard?
I know that i could get a rail system for it but i like the way it looks now and im afraid that the rails would prevent me for folding the stock

i have the same yugo, those cheap century handguards lack the metal heat shields found on higher end models so they heat up real quick. check youtube if you want, i believe there are a few videos where people have gotten them hot enough to actually melt (and even burst into flames if they were using wood)! as you know yugo's dont take standard AK furniture, so you'll have a problem finding a replacement that is polymer.
your best bet would be to either go with a wood handguard set or check k-var to see if they make a polymer set for a yugo. you could try locating some RPK furniture, they're built on the same receivers so they maybe able to swap furniture, but honestly i dont know if that would work or not.
good luck!

I have a Yugo M70AB2, and I don't have that problem, even with rapid fire. The barrel gets hot, of course, but definitely not too hot to handle using the heat shield. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if your gas port has some type of problem (like being too big), and it's allowing too much gas to go through.
I'm just guessing of course, but it shouldn't get that hot!
