My cat has chapped lips?

My cat seems to have chapped lips. Her upper lips are red and raw. Shes eating and drinking plenty of water, so its not bothering her too much, but when I tried to touch them, she pulled away. Her lips don't look swollen just red and maybe a little flaky. This seems to be new, as in the last few days, but its possible I just haven't looked very close. Shes also been sticking her tongue out after bathing more than she used to (maybe this isn't strange, but I thought it was worth mentioning).

A little background about her...

She was a stray that wandered onto my porch about two or three months ago. She has semi-long hair. She has 3 week old kittens (she was already pregnant when I found her, so please don't even start about getting her spayed, I'm working on it >.< ). When the kittens were only a week old, two of them died from some sort of infection so she (and through her milk the other kittens as well) was on antibiotics (clavamox) for a week.

I saw some stuff online about cats getting chapped lips, and then some people saying it can't happen. They definitely look chapped to me. I'm hoping this will clear up on its own, but in the meantime, is there anything I can do to help her? Maybe some kitty-cat chapstick?

I'm going to link a picture now. (I know it looks like I have a death grip on her head, but thats just because shes leery of me grabbing at her face because of the meds she was on).

Update:

It's not a dental thing. When I took her to the vet two weeks ago for the kittens, he checked her teeth and all he said was how old she was (3 or 4). I think he would have noticed if it was a dental thing. Thanks anyway though. :)

And I'm not home right now, but as soon as I get home later, I'll check my electrical cords.

Check to see if she has been chewing on electric cords in your house. I had a cat do that who burned the hell out of his mouth. It looked similar to your cat's mouth. But worse. My cat couldn't eat, so we had to give him nutrition gel. Give it some time and check around for burned and chewed up cords. Our vet couldn't do anything for our burned cat except sell us the food gel. Good Luck.

aww.. maybe more sores than chapped lips? - or are those two things the same? lol.

I would say gum issues if it was on her gums but it's more... on the lips as you stated. in both words and pictures. May be a reaction from the meds... especially if a number of others are asking about it. You can't always trust everyone that says it can't be caused by the medicenes. cause you know cats are like people in that way.. some people may have side effects when others... and others can even end up getting side effects not listed. *shrugs* ... maybe the med reacting with a certain kind of ingrediant in the food or something that others have not PROVEN that, that is a side effect.

I honestly don't know what's safe for cats in meds wise.. >.> hmm.. they should create a kitty med site where they list all the uses for common home medicenes and things *nods* I know my spell is horrific. but sowwies.

Hope she gets better. It looks painful. maybe some.... luke warm water or kitty milk for her?

could maybe be abssesses (Can't spell) too.

I'm not sure, but could she possibly have some dental problems that are causing her lips/gums to swell? If so, she could have advanced periodontal disease and may need to see a vet ASAP. Cats who have rotten teeth can suffer from other health issues as a direct result. If her teeth are not the problem, then I would still suggest taking her to the vet for a checkup. I hope this is of some help. Good luck with her.
