From "7 Jobs to Skip College For"

"4. Nuclear Power Reactor Operator: $79,100 median salary

Since nuclear power reactor operators work with highly sensitive equipment, they need an understanding of physics and engineering, as well as active learning and troubleshooting skills. The higher pay correlates to the highly specialized skill set required. "

Is it just me, or should nuclear technicians at least have to GO TO COLLEGE? I mean, really. We have people who barely managed to pass highschool operating nuclear power plants? Who's genius idea was this? Am I the only one a little freaked out by this thought?

Actually I know a power plant operator, college doesn't do very much for the type of physics and engineering he deals with. College is unnecessary if you want to be a power plant operator, just expect to spend 5-10 years of hell in your job just learning the basics. You may not have to go to college, but the amount of certifications and training you need just to run a basic shift on your own? It's insane. I'd pick college personally, easier and less stress.

"We have people who barely managed to pass highschool operating nuclear power plants?"

You know what scares me more? That you honestly think they find a near high school dropout and just hand him the keys to a nuclear power plant. That you had a conscious thought like this that didn't immediately register as retarded to you frightens me far more.

I'm sure the job has training, doofus. Have you ever been to college? There are morons all over the place. I met someone who thought we had 52 states in the US. And they weren't a foreign exchange student or anything.

Considering the type of job it is, I don't really see what a bachelor's would do to improve one's work performance.

    btw, not "who's".

It's not research work, old son. It's maintenance, and for that, you don't hardly need to be a genius. No, you need to be able to do the same job at the same level of care for years.

If you think scientists, whether in physics or biology or whatever make a lot of money you are mistaken.
