what do you think of Mr Cameron The British Prime minister wanting Turkey to Join the EU?

I think he would be better involved in making Britain equal to the rest of the EU and get his own house in order .

I believe that is in error.... just like his former counterpart Tony Blair.

Turkey is fast moving towards an Islamic Fundamentalist State under President Gul and the secular system which is enshrined in the Turkish constitution is (or was by Ataturk) protected by the military has been eroded by the sacking of all the senior Generals.

Make no mistake on this ... it is the Americans that want Turkey in the EU for military purposes, just the same as they wanted all of the former Soviet Eastern European countries in the EU and to isolate Russia, do you not find it a little odd that Cameron would propose their membership so soon after his visit to the US?

It is my view that by accepting an aggressive 80 million strong Islamic State into Europe we would be making a rod for our own backs, a decision to be repented at leisure.

    Edit.

Apart from the US bases in Turkey, what have they to offer the EU?

Anyone that has seen the 'real' Turkey and not just the tourist bits will understand what I mean.

Nice way to convince the world that he's the poodle of the Americans, who have been long time supporters of Turkey entering the EU.

Plus, he actually gave lessons of "Europeanism" to France and Germany. Pretty funny to hear that from someone who worked very hard against the Lisbon Treaty and from a country that doesn't even have the Euro, is often Europhobic and constantly aligns itself with the US instead of the EU !

France and Germany will make him pay for this.

My god, people voted for something different and got more of the same. A NWO bootlicker, worse than Blair-Brown and the other cronies. There was a time when Conservatives were exactly that, Conservatives.

Turkey Joining the EU would be an absolute disaster, you think that Poles doing basic jobs for minimum wage and sometimes less would appreciate Turks coming here? Cameron should get real.

Circumstances have changed Poles came here when the economy was booming, an influx of Thousands of Turks would more likely collapse the social service system, Immigrants are doing it now, why would we need more?

That man Cameron must be a first class idiot.

Its a mistake, and a big one. If we aren't careful, we will be overrun with more people than we can shake a stick at. Its already a country i don't recognise, one that has been sold to EU for a pile of gold.

Michael is right about this, that those only base their opinions on their once a year foreign trip to the hotspots, whilst the rest of the country is vastly different. 75 million muslims, and those would have access here, you can say what you like, but this would be a gigantic mistake.

President Obama is in favour of Turkey joining the EU dispite opposition because of it's human rights issues. All of a sudden Cameron is in favour, surprise, surprise.

The Tories have always been anti-EU and they consider one way of reducing its effectiveness is to have it expand as quickly as possible, thus making the political and administrative structures inadequate to service the number of constituent countries, rendering it ineffectual and ideally causing it to collapse. Allowing Turkey to join prematurely would be a step in this direction.

he probably wants a populous country to help dilute the Germany/France/Belgium/Netherlands power base. It was a technique that worked well for Blair with the Eastern Europe Bloc. By helping them in to the EU, he got them on our side, not all this wanting to subsidise growing grapes and tobacco that the 'old school' EU loves.

Turkey is a good place, they are serious about EU membership.
