At what temperature should cooling fans operate in 2001 Grand Am?

I have this 2001 Grand and the cooling fans come on at around 215 degrees according to the temperature guage inside the vehicle. I have never encountered a car where the engine heats ups that much before the fans come on. I am unable to find the specs and want to know if anyone have encountered this problem.

Does anyone know the temperature which the cooling fans should operate?

If 215 degrees is too high, what could be the problem?

Update:

the engine is the 3.4 liter V6

Update 2:

BTW 215 degrees is about a quarter past the halfway mark and when on the freeway the guage goes down to about 195 to 200 degrees because of the added breeze.....this temperature is what has been the norm for me in other cars

Is it a 4-cyl? I have seen this in other 4-cyl before. Do the fans kick on when the a/c is on? If so, everything sounds normal

Call a parts store- ask about your cooling fan switch. When they search for the part, it may be listed along with the temperature it switches at
