Bruins have signed Seguin...or so says the word on the street...now what do we do?
OK, so the Rumor Mill is stating that we signed Seguin with a deal similar to Hall's. 900K for 3 years, plus bonuses that could push him into the 3.75 mil area.
I'm not a big cap guy, so I'm looking for thoughts and potential clarification.
Right now, we're about 2 mil over the cap. If we demote Ryder, or trade or release him, that clears up 4 mil, giving us 2 mil of space.
We have Sturm, on LTIR with a hit of close to 4. So if he comes in for half a season that puts us about at the cap limit.
So where is the room for Seguin? Will we need to move someone else?
Also, if we take Sturm out of the situation, how does Seguin's bonus potential count? Will he be a hit of 3.75 mil off that bat, or does the bonus only get added on if/when he earns it?

Seguin signed the standard ELC deal ($900K is the max salary) for top picks.
For this year the bonus won't count but if he earns a bonus it would apply to next year's cap if the Bruins are at the limit. Teams can go over the cap for bonuses but they would apply to next year's cap (essentially starting the year in the hole).
The other option that Boston has is to give Seguin the 8/9 game (I forget which one it is- I'm getting old and I haven't taken my pills) audition at the start of the season, and they can always send him back to junior (it's one of those deals they'll have to work out- if he's only getting marginal (under 15) minutes a night in the NHL, would it be better to send him back where he will get 22-25+ minutes a night?). I don't know the answer because we haven't seen him take a shift yet.
It's been mentioned quite a bit but capgeek's site is really good in an addictive sort of way. You can, in an impartial way, see exactly what Boston is dealing with relative to the cap. They really should have a "this site can be really addictive" warning.

Well first off, I'm glad we signed Seguin. I think he can come in and score about 20 goals give or take. Seguin doesn't have to be a saviour to this team but I think he will be a piece to the puzzle. I think that Seguin would be too good for the P. Bruins.
The first movve I think the B's should make doing something with Ryder. With a terrible cap hit of around $4,000,000 that would be great to clear up. Ryder may be a 20 goal scorer but he plays with no heart and just acts like he doesn't want to be there. He doesn't seem like a team player and a guy that leaves it all on the ice. Seguin, Horton, and a healthy Savard should fill up our lack of scoring.
Ference is another issue that the Bruins have. He is one of the worst, if not the worst defence on this team. At a cap hit at around 2.25 Million that would be a good amount of $ to get rid of.
I also think we can send Campbell to Providence. His cap hit isn't much at around $1,000,000 but it's a salary we can get rid of.
So that's about $7.2 million cleared up so it there around $2.2 million over now that will give them $5 Million in cap space to sign Seguin at a $3.75 million and sign Bill Guerin at around 1 million.
Trading Thomas and Savard is not the answer. I think Tuukka has proved himself to be the starting goalie but he still is young and knowing how comepetitive Timmy is he will definatley put up a fight for the number one goaltender. Savard is just to good of a playmaker and scorer to be traded. And he is a steal.
I'm not good a math or anything so...
Anyways, here are my lines for next season.
Horton-Savard-Lucic
Seguin-Bergeron-Recchi
Wheeler-Krejci-Guerin
Paille-Begin-Thornton
Once Sturm comes back he can replace Guerin.
These things probably won't happen but it's just my opinion and my middle school math skills. :)
@eNICKma- No way would the Bruins EVER trade Bergeron or Krejci NO WAY. Why would we trade our grear centermen for a rookie. I think Seguin will come in and be a help but what if he isn't? Then we traded away a center for nothing. AND we can't trade Sturm. He's hurt. No team wants a hurt player that might not play good ever again. And he lead the Bruins in goals. Just Sayin'
P.S. Sorry this is wicked long.

Seguin tries out. If he makes the team, his cap hit is 3.75. If not, he can be sent down to Junior, and you don't lose a year on his ELC, and there is no cap hit. Seguin can play 9 games in the NHL before having to be sent down as well. He either plays the year in jr or the NHL. He can't be called up or sent down.

Not to worry. Leafs' GM Brian Burke will again ride to the rescue and take on Marc Savard's huge seven-year contract.
That will leave lots of room for the Bruins to not only sign Seguin and others now, but also next year's overall # 1 pick, which they'll get by the Leafs finishing last overall.
Burke gave up that pick as part of the Kessell signing last year, which opened the way for the Bruins to get Seguin and Knight this year with top Leaf picks.

Those bonuses can be pushed into the club’s bonus cushion, which means they won’t count against this year’s cap, but whatever bonuses he does earn will be applied to next year’s cap. Thus he would only be a $900,000 cap hit this season

I'm a Bruins fan, and I really think Ryder needs to go. It seems like he doesn't care about his career anymore.... I also STRONGLY suggest they find a new home for Thomas.....
...and possibly get rid of Stuart? I find him useless.
This would free up so much cap room!

boston needs to trade a center (krejci or bergeron) for seguin to flourish at his natural position
despite the fact players like ryder would be nice to kill the cap hit
i see ryder leaving soon though, maybe strum or krejci
