What do you think of preseason rankings of NCAA football?
I was a little surprised USC wasn't even mentioned for votes. Was that part of their sanction by the NCAA? My Sooners landed 8th which I thought was fairly generous after last seasons nightmares lol. I was however surprised to see Ohio State #2 I think Pryor has been pretty much a bust. He was such a touted recruit coming out but I don't think they are #2 caliber. Anywho post on here with your thoughts I am curious to hear what others think. If you would change a couple things what would they be?
I also got to wonder what people are thinking ranking Texas #4. They have a new QB and the oldest O-linemen they got is a Sophomore. I see them having a bit more troubles than people think.
I agree preseason polls are pointless. But they have some merit at least. They take into consideration up and coming kids, who a team lost, who is expected to step up. It isn't by any means concrete but it's nice to see what people think on the matter nonetheless

I didn't think the rankings were too bad. Yes, USC can't qualify for the poll this year. I wasn't surprised to see Ohio St at #2. Preseason rankings are decided more on how the team did the previous year instead of the actual talent of the team, recruiting, and players that left. If that were true then Florida would not be #3. Boise St should be higher than Florida due mainly to the fact that they have most of their players returning. Nebraska and Iowa shouldn't be as high as they are. Nebraska hasn't done anything in recent memory to warrant a #9 ranking and the way Iowa squeaked by bad teams last year shouldn't give them a #10 ranking. They beat some pretty bad teams by only a few points including a win over Div. 1A UNI by a point on a blocked field goal. I pretty much agree with everything else. Florida St probably shouldn't be at #20 just yet but they'll have a good team as long as their players stop getting arrested.

While preseason polls rarely mean anything unless a team goes wire-to-wire, I agree with the snub of USC just because of the new coach and the sanctions as well as last season's collapse make them a big question mark. The bucks are top 10 idk about #2 but pryor has been fantastic recently as he was mr. everything for the bucks in the rose bowl victory. Also I think Texas deserves the #4 for now seeing as to how they hold the longest streak of 10-win seasons in the nation (since 2000) especially since Muschamp is leading the defense and they've been in this qb situation before with McCoy as a freshman replacing Vince Young in 2006 and they were able to go 10-3. But all this is opinion until we see the teams on the field.

The preseason polls are more for the sports analyst than anything else. Compare the preseason polls and the year-end polls and you will see what I mean. I tend to look at conferences and schedules. I think the Big 10 and SEC are the top conferences from top to bottom. The Big 12 is down this year because of the draft. However, Texas does not have that hard of a schedule and their quarterback didn't look all that bad in the championship game. It was valuable experience for him. I think Oklahoma, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Alabama are over-rated. I think Florida is the team to beat even with the loss of Tebow. My sleepers are Wisconsin, Houston and Auburn. I also think Boise State and TCU are for real.
As for USC the sanctions prevent them from being listed in any polls.

They're pointless. The only rankings that matter are the ones at the end of the regular season. Preseason rankings are simply based on speculation. Because of these rankings, if Alabama finishes lower than #1, it's a disappointment. Puts a lot of pressure on a team. I don't think they should come out with rankings until the second or third week. That's when we start to get an idea as to how good a team is going to be.

I'm not sure if the NCAA sanction had anything to do with it, but USC is at a real down year. Pete Caroll left and a lot of players did as well for the same reason. Many people think that, because of the sanction, all the good USC players will be redshirted so they can be better when it matters

Completely useless just like any other pre-season prediction. IT's even worse in NCAA where 25-30% of your team changes every year.
