being induced in 2 weeks..?
hey everyone i'm currently 36 weeks + 6 days and getting induced in exactly 2 weeks when i'm 38 + 6 days due to gestational diabeties and as i had a stillborn son last year (i lost him at 28 weeks). I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about getting induced.. they said they would be doing it by inserting a gel every 3 hours till my cervix opens then they would break my waters and that would hopefully start my labour off.. how long did it take for you.. what was it like.. how long did you have to stay in hospital after.. thank you for all your answers xxx

Hey there.
I was 38 weeks and 4 days when i was induced. I was told 2 days before, which is sometimes better as you dont have as long to think about things. I was getting induced because i had had a few bleeds throughout my pregnancy, my baby measured small and because i had a placenta rupture.
I went into hospital on tues 6th of april. My first pessary was inserted around 9am on the wed morning. Not much happened then, so the midwife inserted another pessary around 4pm. I had some pains right the way through the night and into the thursday morning. A third (and last), pessary was inserted around 9am again. This time it worked!
I started getting some serious contrations about 3pm that afternoon. At exactly 6pm i was screaming for the nurses to get me to a delivery suite as i was more than positive i was about to give birth. At 6.18pm i gave birth to my gorgeous little girl Pyper weighing 5lb 3 and a half oz.
My labour and birth was 3 hours and 18 minutes.
I had no pain killers, not even gas and air. I wasn't in pain while i was giving birth, because it was so quick. I had 2 cuts, 4 stiches in them.
The only down side to my story is that my little princess was taken to SCBU at 7 hours old. She was there for 12 days with hypoglaecemia but i only had to stay 3 nights after birth. Both me and my partner had 24 hour access to SCBU so we could visit Pyper whenever we wanted. Quite often we'd still be there at 1am! Being my first i wanted to be with her 24/7.
Now you wouldn't know that there had been anyhing wrong with her. She's a happy bouncy girl!
I'd do it all over again. And again.
My only advice - walk as much as possible!!!!
Goodluck! You'll do fantastic hun.

I was induced at 40 weeks at 8:30 AM (I have family that lives 14 hours away so I wanted them to be able to be there) and I was already 3 cms dilated so the doctor just stuck something in there and broke my water.. contractions started but at around noon, I was at 5 cms and they gave me pitocin.. I was planning on going without any pain medication but I was having a really hard time breathing through my contractions so I went ahead and got an epidural anyway and a little while after, I started feeling a sharp pain whenever I had a contraction.. nurse said that the epidural probably couldn't get rid of all the pain and that it was okay but if I felt like I needed to push then to tell her.. I was like whatever, not sure what that would really feel like cause I can't feel anything cept the sharp pain..
So 2ish, they checked me and I was fully dilated and the nurse said, "Oh... well no wonder you've been feeling that pain.." and we waited a little bit because my doctor was at an appointment (if I hadn't had the epidural though, they wouldn't have made me wait, they said) but they went ahead and let me start pushing at 2:30ish and Kiri was out at 3:05. :)
I only stayed for a day after I had Kiri.. which was how much my insurance would cover unless I needed to stay longer for some reason.. my doctor asked if I felt like I needed to stay but I was sooooo ready to get out of there lol.
So.. it was about 6 - 6 1/2 hours.. probably woulda been shorter but I didn't really know that that pain and pressure was me being ready to push. :p

I was induced at 39 weeks + 1 day due to my blood pressure going up (and because of previous complications they didn't want to wait and take the chance of it affecting the baby). They decided not to use the gel on me and used a cervical balloon (litterally a little cathetar that they blow up once it's inside to dilate the cervix), but I was already 2 cm, when they started. They also started me pitocin. My contractions started strong and right away! However I was still in labour for 24 hours and pushed for another 2. Labour progressed until the balloon came out and then stalled for a few hours, when they checked me I had still dialated to 5cm so they broke my water which started things up again. While I was pushing my daughters heart rate became irregular and they were thinking they would have to use the vacuum, however I was able to get her out without it.
It turns out her heart rate was dropping because she had a true knot in her umbilical cord which was tightening as she decended down the birth canal. As a result she did have meconium aspiration and pnuemothorax and had to spend 3 days in the NICU (mainly for observation). But everything worked out and she was given a clean bill of health!
Good Luck and congratulations!!!

They induced me at 8 PM. Over night I was ok. It was uncomfortable because I had IV and fetal monitor on my belly, and I had to go to bathroom every half an hour with all those stuff. By next day at 8 PM I was only 2 cm dilated. At 11 PM, they broke the water and then booom.. I was 10 cm in one hour. I started pushing around 12 and pushed for 3 hours. After that my baby's heart beats started dropping and I was too exhausted. So finally went to C section.
Dont want to scare you with my experience.

I was induced at 39 weeks due to preeclampsia. It went very smoothly. From the very beginning to delivery it only took 8 hours, and I checked at of the hospital the same if I hadn't been induced, which is 2 days here. I hope everything goes well... Good luck!

First, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your son.
I was induced at 39 weeks with my third son because my first two babies were so big (9lbs, 7oz & 8lbs, 15oz) and because I had polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid). They brought me in at 6 am, hooked me up to an IV of pitocin about 9 am, broke my water around noon and I delivered him about 9 pm. Therefore, it took about 12 hours, just like my first two deliveries. I will say that the contractions were a little bit more uncomfortable with the induction, but only because they kept cranking up the pitocin to "move me along". Still I delivered my third son without and epidural, just like with the first two.
You'll be fine! Good luck to you!
