is there a home remedy flea and tick repellent for dogs?
i have 4 dogs and keep them clean and put a monthly topical flea and tick medicine on them but am wondering if there is something i can put on the dogs that will naturally repel any unwanted bugs on them.

Diatomaceous earth seems to be a fairly safe and effective alternative to the topicals, although I am not certain how exactly you use it or the necessary amounts. Hopefully one of the more holisitic sorts will see your question and be able to offer details.
I would not recommend the use of garlic, which is another suggestion you will probably receive. Garlic, like onions, causes hemolytic anemia in dogs. Given in small amounts, you won't kill your dog, but you aren't doing him any favors, either. ;)
I've also heard of using Neem oil, which does appear to be safe, but I am not sure how effective it is or isn't. Again, hopefully someone who knows more about it can help you with the details on this one.
ETA: HA! Yes, good point! Neem oil is only for external use!

I used x1 garlic oil pearl and x2 brewers yeast tablets for years without any flea, tick issues at all....then I found neem bark powder, which is great, protects against all the parasites, internal and external and keeps the immune system functioning at optimum levels...so no chemical wormers, no chemical insectorside required at all
Just to note: Only use Neem OIL externally never internally...so to make shampoos, coat sprays etc...neem bark or leaf powder can be given in their meal

The owner of the dog needs to know how to "operate" the dog, same way you can get into a car that's in perfect running order but if you don't know how to drive you won't have much luck making the car go anywhere. If the owner doesn't know how to maintain the training, the dog will soon become untrained again. Read more here https://tr.im/H3J67
People seem to think that once a dog is trained, that's it. Not true. You must reinforce the dog's training every single day in some way. It's best if the owner and the dog go together to get trained. As a professional trainer once said to me "We can train any dog in 2 days. It takes longer to train the owners
