Sorry, you've got your wars mixed up. McCrystal was in Afganistan, not Iraq. The Iraq war is ending. The war in Afganistan continues.

The pull out has been planned, I think, since the Bush Administration, but for a long time, at least. It seems to me there was talk before George Bush left office. I could be wrong.
But they could not have pulled the troops out this soon after Petreaus took office and I think he is in Afghanistan, not Iraq, anyway. Just be glad our guys are out of harms way, at least most of them in Iraq. The war in Afghanistan could go on for years to come.
