In military housing they are just like any other rental, unfurnished except for a fridge, stove and usually a dishwasher. Some bases/posts will provide washer/dryer and others do not unless you are at an overseas location.

You qualify for housing if you are married on accompanied orders. The housing you qualify for depends on your Rank/Rate and the # of dependents. The housing size can vary from 1 bedroom to 5 bedrooms, it can be from apartments to townhouses to duplexes and individual houses. Fences will depend on the house and housing office. Some will allow it and others will not. If they do allow it, it does have to be approved, the cost of putting it in and removing it is your own. You can paint but you will have to paint it back to the original color before you leave.

You will also still pay for cable, internet and telephone out of pocket, they are not provided for you. It honestly depends on multiple factors to whether or not it is good for you to live in. In some areas yes and in other areas no you can find a place out in town for cheaper and then pocket some of the BAH.

At our base we are allowed to paint after you get approval from housing. You just have to primer it when u move out. Our place does have a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. With putting a fence up you have to get approval from housing and get a bunch of inspections done. A lot of people here put up small fences that you can buy at home depot or Lowes. I love living on base, its convient and we have awesome neighbors.

Stove and Fridge will be supplied.

Washer and Dryer are your responsibility to furnish, and stateside bases do NOT have loaners.

Painting... only with permission from the housing office, and you will have to return it to the original color when you move out.

Fence.... with permission from the housing office. And, yes, you can put it up yourself. But, if someone is offered that house when you are getting ready to move, they do not have to accept the fence and you can be required to remove it.

Pros- close to work, living in a small town, schools within walking distance, rules and regs that have to be followed by residence, no utility bills.

Cons - close to work, living in a small town, it's not your home (limits what you can do), repainting walls, maintenance on their schedule not yours.

Remember... every base is different. Current base... we can't afford to live in town. (Housing is out of this world and town is 20 miles from base) Last base... housing was awful and had no desire to live in it, and found better off base.
