If you like me, can legally carry concealed, what is your first choice of weapon and ammo?
I'm a big guy. Can carry most anything. 1911, glock, etc. When I say big guy, think concealed.. Do have to think about smaller weapon in the summer. I'm partial to my old reliable Bersa 380 loaded with Buffalo Bore hollowpoints. Also known to tuck taurus pt-25 in a pocket. Hey, better than throwing rocks.
I realize this is a personal thing, just wanted to see what ya'll thunk about it.

Right now I liquidated everything but my Steyr M9 9mm, but I am on the fence for a new .45 ACP weapon. Looking at an XD, but tempted for RIA 1911, if I can calm down about the carrying locked and ****** factor. Granddad did it for 4 years, but he didn't have to run down to the grocer's for a loaf of bread either.
Ammo? Again, I'm an odd duck, I like Speer Gold Dot for 9mm, or Winchester Rangers, and any 200 or 230 FMJ for .45 ACP. Opposites, but with the fewer shots, I want absolute function out of the .45, and I've experienced that shot placement is more important than how much you spend on ammo. Additionally, I've seen even 124 gr 9mm FMJ's make a mess of things, and do kill people.
personal preference, some of my friends think I'm crazy. Not too worried.

Is the U. S. risky that human beings experience the could carry a hid weapon? In some factors, specific. the US is a huge u . s . a . with approximately 3 hundred million human beings, some sturdy, some undesirable, some very undesirable. There are some factors in the US that are fairly risky, sarcastically those even tend to be the factors with the strictest gun regulations. Then there are different factors that look like a Norman Rockwell portray. I now and back carry a hid firearm whilst vacationing on long journeys simply by fact I understand that i'm finally existence like for my very own protection. whilst danger threatens it fairly is frequently too previous simply by call a policeman. Violent crime in the US is the end result (for my area) of a lenient judicial equipment that favors the rights of the in charge on the rate of the sufferer. over the final 40 years this has in basic terms gotten worse. in the US violent criminals are heavily dealt with in basic terms after committing various crimes, regularly having sentences bargained right down to a lesser offense in courtroom in the previous their offender pastime finally earns them an substantial detention center term. the US is between the few counties the place electorate can legally very own firearms, and decrease than the main appropriate circumstances even very own finished vehicle weapons (think of gadget gun). This gun-love we've is something uniquely American. the US became into born for the time of the muzzle of a gun and firearms performed a decisive roll in the shaping of this u . s . a .. the main appropriate to very own a firearm is basically as substantial to maximum human beings simply by fact the main appropriate to loose speech and a loose press. you would be no longer effortless pressed to locate yet another u . s . a . in the worldwide that's extra atavistic approximately firearm possession than the US.

I vary what I carry buy where I am going.
If I am going into the mountains, I carry a Ruger Alaskan.
If I am going to Walmart or pretty much any place around town, I carry a 357 mag or 327 mag revolver with laser grips.
If I have to strip down to sandals, shorts and a T-shirt, I like my Walther TPH that will fit into a pocket. A small gun is better than no gun at all.
IF I know I am walking into trouble, my XP45 Compact is my first choice. Stopping power and lots of rounds.

I'm a big guy, too; and I carry a humongous Glock Model 21 - or lately, an almost as large, Smith & Wesson Model 59 - around with me everywhere I go. The secret to good concealability is to use an ITB holster and a strong 1 1/2" GUN belt. Cover garments are good, too. I always try to dress for the social occasion AND around the gun.
No EDC should ever be a, 'pacifier'. If you're going to carry a gun, then, carry one. This past week I've been carrying a beautiful old custom S&W Model 59. It's sat in my safe for more than 20 years; so, I thought I'd take it out and use it for awhile.
Spent this afternoon running through combat targets with it at my gun club. It's a beautiful old pistol that attracts a lot of attention; but, the trigger was very difficult for me to adjust to. (I'd have to say that in spite of the fact that I frequently scored inside the X-ring I, also, threw away 10 or 15% of my shots - Simply because I'm way too used to firing a Glock or a 1911.)
I'm going to carry this 9mm pistol for a couple of more weeks before I hose it down and return it to the safe; but, in the meantime, I've really got to say, '9mm is for pansies!' (Guess that's, 'Why' I carry 46 rounds of 9mm with me everywhere I go.) The thought of attempting to use anything smaller than 9mm in order to defend my life is, well, just plain nutz!
Like I said: A pistol should never be a pacifier! (If you're lucky enough to survive your first CQB pistol gunfight, you'll better understand what I'm talking about.) Don't forget really hot JHP's are always much more difficult to control and shoot straight - Especially when you're using a pistol that's better suited to mouse hunting. ;)

I am not a large fellow (5'9", 175ish)
My first carry gun was a snub-nosed .38. Sold it to a friend to buy a Kel-Tec in .380. When possible, I also carry a Glock 19 or a Glock 30.
A Charter Arms Bulldog Pug sometimes accompanies me when I hike. 2 rounds of birdshot, followed by 3 240gr LRN.

Sig P238, S&W 438, Glock 26. Sometimes others, but these are the norm. I find the S&W to be the most convienient.
I am sold on Hornady Critical defense, i think they are the best rounds out there for self defense. I do carry speer gold dots in the 26 on occasion.

My choices are based upon what I can comfortably hold in my hands, shoot well and conceal decently.
~S&W Model 36 chambered for .38 Special and with a Pachmayr grip.
~Taurus "Millenium Pro" Model PT-111 chambered for 9x19mm and equipped with a Hogue "Handall" slip-on grip enhancer.
~Ruger SP-101 chambered for .38 Special and equipped with a Pachmayr grip.
I also have Safariland speedloaders for the revolvers. I find them easier to use than similar products made by HKS.
I prefer holsters that are either the "small-of-back" type or the "pocket" type.

my first choice would be my springfield xd45 compact with full metal jacket ammo..i've fired it almost a thousand rounds and and still no malfunction to this date.very reliable and accurate.low maintenance and the 45 has great stopping power.alternative choice would be my glock 19.although less power than the 45,it has more rounds in its magazine...very reliable too, accurate and low maintenance.these two are the best for me.no greasy oil needed too.

I'm a full grown man too, 6'2" 230 lbs. I'm big enough to conceal carry just about any pistol I want to. I carry one of 4 pistols, depending on where I'll be that day and what I'll be doing.
HKUSP40SW, my general duty pistol for over 15 years now.
CZP01 9mm, one of my favorites.
Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt, my workhorse pistol.
RIA 1911A1, it's a 1911, what else can you say.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
CZ-82, Ruger LCP, NAA Mini Mag(.22 Mag). When i trust my RIA 1911 enough to carry c0cked and locked, i'll throw that in the mix. The CZ will probably continue to be my main carry gun.
