What does basil or oregano do for a pot roast?

I am making a pot roast and it calls for either dried basil or oregano. Why or these herbs called for in a pot roast recipe?

Because they taste good. I certainly hope your recipe calls for other seasonings as well, but the reason we add seasonings is to well season the meat and make it taste good.

Basil is my favorite herb but surprisingly not for meat. I'd select the oregano for my roast.
