what to do with a cat that bites?

My wifes cat is only 6 months old but is a little wild at times. When it gets all worked up it wants to bite her. It will leave marks on her hands, arms and legs, with blood sometimes appearing. Is their a way to train the cat from doing this?

Whenever it's happened to me, shaken the cat a bit (not too aggressively - you don't want to give it whip-lash or anything) and then put the cat on the floor. If it comes back to you, push it away; a couple of times if you need to.

Watch it to see if there it shows any signs of particular discomfort. After a few hours, you can approach it, or let it approach you, and then caress it and see if it shows any signs of tenderness on its body. Keep being gentle. If you find something, speak quietly and show affection. If it bites you again, you probably do need to consult with a vet.

Remember; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" applies to our furry little friends, too.

Good luck to both of you!

Whenever the cat starts playing too rough, switch the play focus to a stuffed toy that they are free to bite and scratch and kick. Also she could try walking away from him and going into another room and closing the door, which tells him "Playtime is over". After less than 5 minutes he ought to be reasonably calmed down.

Whenever the cat does this, give it a tap on the nose. A cats nose is very sensitive, and doing this a few times it will soon learn not to do it.

im not sure what to do but i may know why. biting can be a sign that there is something wrong and is trying to tell you. ask a vet or someone you know who could know if theres any signs of something wrong.

Take it to a vet and get it de-toothed.
