Is the Dyson - Ball HEPA Upright Bagless Vacuum worth the money? (and pick up cat hair?)?

It's almost $500 but it gets excellent reviews, so I know it's good. Is it a vacuum that's going to last me many years?

The most important feature I'm looking for is that it sucks up cat hair from rugs and furniture. Does anyone who has a pet own this vacuum and recommend it? Or is there another vacuum that does a better job of picking up pet hair?

Any info would be helpful! Thanks :)

I won't pay that kind of money for a vacuum. And I've seen a lot of Dyson vacuums returned for problems or brought back to send out for repairs. Want to try to explain to someone who paid $500 for a vacuum, it breaks in 2 months that it will be 6-8 weeks before they get it back from the repair facility?

Try the Bissell Healthy Home. Works great on pet hair; I have 3 dogs and 4 cats. Unit was on sale at Lowe's for $179 the other week, might still be. Uses a similar filter technology to Dyson, has a 5 year warranty and a ton of suction. Keeping the filters and the dust collection chamber cleaned out (including the screens) will help keep the suction up where you want it to be. Takes like 5 minutes once or twice a month and a brush.

None of the uprights do well on bare floors. Stop at Sears and get their generic bare floor brush. Comes with an adapter that fits right one the extension wand of the Bissell and you have turned your upright into a canister vac for bare floors. Cost $13. The little brushes inside the attachment kick the pet hair up off the bare floors so the suction can get it.

    Hello,

Purchasing a Dyson is definitely a good investment. They have a 5 year warranty and are very good at taking care of you should something go wrong. Although you hear stories about them breaking down, keep two things in mind: 1) someone mad tells 10 people their story, someone happy tells 2 -- common law of #'s says you will always hear more bad things than good, and 2) Dyson has less than 2% of their machines that COULD be claimed for warranty, actually claimed for warranty.

It will do a great job with pet hair - if it is the DC25 you are asking about, it has 121 CFM - a unit to measure air flow - and one of the strongest in the business. What this means to you is that it will pick up almost anything, including cat hair.

In my honest opinion, if price isn't a concern, you should look into a Miele S7 model instead - we sell them at www.carmensvacuum.com. You can look at the Salsa or that Calypso, both are the same just different colors. The come with a 7 year warranty vs Dyson's 5, and they also have a higher CFM at 141 than the Dyson models.

If it's the price that concerns you, I should be able to work out a deal to help you save money - email me at adam.e@carmensvacuum.com and we'll see how we can work something out!

    Hope we can talk,

I am a manager of a vac store, sales and repair. If you like giving me all your money to fix your vac buy it. 7 outa 10 vacs i repair are dysons. Best one german made miele- cat&dog S7 upright. $599. $100 more but you will kiss me later for it. dyson 5 year warranty, miele 7 years but designed to last 20 years. I think dysons were made to spontaneously combust in one year. If the stair tool/pet tool doesn't matter to you. You can get the meile salsa S7 for $499. You couldn't get one for under 700 before.

get salsa and get pet tool seperate later maybe. look at the reviews in different forums not just one. But I'm a vac mechanic basically and you wanna consult with your mechanic when u buy a car so why not when you buy $500 vacuums. You get a 7 year warranty online but if you want a 10 year warranty no extra charge than let me take care of you. We ship. Which ever way you decide I hope it works out well.

    Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The choice of vacuum cleaner is very much one of personal choice. You may find our help me choose section on the Dyson website useful as you can filter the many different Dyson vacuum cleaners by your particular needs.

The link to the site is: http://www.dyson.com/store/hmc.asp

I hope that you find this information useful.

    Kind regards

I'll tell you this, for about 300 dollars less, the Shark Navigator does a pretty fine job. Shark also makes handheld ones that will be easier to use on furniture.

You might want to ask this in the pet section too. People there mostly have pets and experience with getting pet hair off stuff.
