If your prescription causes side effects, do you stop taking it?

Do you tell your doctor so he can find you another option that won't have side effects?

Does it depend on the side effect (i.e., weight gain, leg pains, headaches, etc.)?

What if your doctor prescribes another medication to combat the side effects?

Telling your doctor and getting an alternate is generally the best way to go.

However, if you are diagnosed incorrectly to begin with, it won't help at all.

I recently had a lengthy in depth exam/medical history done and learned I'm not bipolar (manic depression). Which is why the meds have been about to kill me for 3 years with side effects, fatal reactions, etc. and they did not help.

I stopped ALL of that type of meds in mid July and all my health issues except high blood pressure are clearing up or gone.

Seek a second opinion if you need to.

Carefully use natural alternatives if possible. Research what is wrong with you and the meds all you can.

Well hon what you can do is volunteer at the hospital to cheer up sick kids. My son is 11 and has cancer and at the hospital for sick kids, lots of volunteers work there to keep the kids company and give the parents a break to get some lunch or a cup of coffee etc. You can also play games with them, tell them stories, dress up as a clown even and entertain them and make them laugh. You can ask your school to do a special fundraiser to raise money and get things like tvs and games donated at the hospital. Nintendo makes units on stands that have built in games and dvd players, and you can ask people to donate games and videos for the hospital. Nothing is worse than lying around all day when you are sick, and it's a godsend when both children and parents have something to distract them during the long days/weeks/months in hospital. Good for you for caring so much. I'm sorry for all the sadness you've had to witness but I'm really proud that you are thinking of giving of yourself and doing something positive like that. I wish more young people were like you!

If you have any side effects, you should talk to your doctor. Some which you think are nothing can be very serious. I started taking something, and the doc said if I get a rash, that's a sign of something very serious and I should stop taking them immediately. Drugs.com has a good site to determine which side effects to expect and which are very serious, just type your drug into the search box.

Side effects are to be expected. If they persist and become difficult to live with then notify your Dr. There are many multitasking drugs on the market today and a replacement should be easy to find. Remember these drug companies suck up to these Drs. to push their drugs. If you don't want to buy a prescription until you know it will work for you then ask for samples.

2-4 weeks and you should see results. Your MD will want to see you to make sure you are doing well.

I would honestly just ditch prescriptions, maybe find something that is a little more natural see if that works?

I will never ever take any kind of prescription for any reason because all they are are just doctors guessing "hmm, this one might work, letsee"

So, to answer your question. Yes I would stop taking it. I wouldn't try to counter it with another prescription, 'cause if you do that you'll just end up with a gazillion different pills to take every five hours every day, devlope an addiction to them and well, yeah.

That's a tough call. Some meds cause damage if you don't gradually reduce the dose. You need to talk to your doctor first.

That having been said....I am a nature girl. I feel diet, exercise, herbs, vitamins and a good disposition can take care of most ailments. I had a doctor once who said his real duty is to stay out of the way from the body taking care of itself. (It should be that easy, right?)

well it depends on what the side effect is. some side effects can be dangerous. definitely tell the doctor about it. he might have you try something else, or adjust the dosage.
