"We" as in us humans only have one planet...planet Earth. So use it with respect and conserve our resources.
The sun has eight official planets in what we call the solar system (the only solar system in the entire universe...mind you). There are also smaller objects called dwarf planets, of which Pluto is now classified as...and there are five dwarf planets.
Outside the solar system, we don't really have any ownership of those planets. Other stars have ownership of them...and maybe, distant lifeforms have ownership of very few of them. And they don't even get any cool names, rather catalog titles based upon the name of their parent star.
There are over 490 Exoplanets discovered and the number keeps increasing as we discover more.
For instance, the nearest known planetary system to our own is the Epsilon Eridani System. The parent star is Epsilon Eridani, and the planets are Epsilon Eridani-b and Epsilon Eridani-c.
The newly found planet about which you refer to is that over-hyped by the media planet Gliese 581-g. It isn't habitable for certain...it just might be a possibility for habitability. All we have is circumstantial evidence.
Its parent star is Gliese 581, and it is the sixth planet discovered in the planetary system of Gliese 581, hence the catalog letter of g. The catalog letters always begin with b as the first discovered of the system.

We only have 8 in our solar system. The recent find is in another solar system. There have been hundreds found outside of our solar system (the count keeps changing).
There are currently 490 listed at the Extrasolar Planets Encyclopedia

We have been tough all our lives that we have 9 planets.
Then when NASA had to come up with something, so they came up with a 10th planet, planet X.
Now NASA are doing it again by claiming Pluto to no longer be a planet; leaving us with 8 planets.

There are only 8planets in our solar system.About500 extra solar planets were observed by indirect methods which are to be proved by direct observations in future dates when we have technology.
