There are hundreds of different breeds, they can be determined by colour, shape, size and facial appearance. For example, pushed in face (flat), long fur, long tail = Persian
Large framed Tabby, short or no ears = Scottish Fold.
Cats can live up to 20 years depending on how they are treated, my Nan's cat was about 19 when he died, and he had gone bald, needed his ears amputated, had three legs, blind, and had a stroke, he died oh rat poisoning in the end, how ironic! Just make sure Jessica is as healthy as possible to ensure a long and fulfilling life, maybe she can even become the oldest cat in the world, you never know ;)

Here is the link to CFA and their Breeds and standards of the breed.
http://www.cfa.org/breeds.html
How long they live depends on genetic make up of the cat. Indoor or outdoor cat. If the cat gets regular vet check ups and if the cat is seen by the vet if it is acting different than normal. How healthy the food is for the cat and so on.

There are not hundreds of breeds. Do your homework and you will see that. There are Domestic short and long hair cats but that is a cat without a pedigree or registration papers.
There are a different colors and patterns also.

Depends on what association you are looking at - not all associations recognize the same breeds. In general there are only about 50-75 different breeds of purebred cats.
Average indoor (spayed/neutered) cats live 15-18 yrs.

I can answer this. My dad is a vet. Well, first, I suggest Google 'cat breeds', because I don't feel like naming all of the cat breeds... there are many kinds, just like dogs and other animals!! :) And the average age for a cat to live up to is 12-13. 3 of my cats are 16 and my youngest cat is 6.
Unlike dogs, usually all cat breeds live up to the same category (12-13 at most). For dogs, it's different because it depends on how large or small the dog is. I believe the smaller the dog, the older it lives, and the larger, the younger. For example, I have a Shih Tzu and they are small, and they usually live to about 10-12 years. And my friend has 2 Golden Retrievers, and they are larger dogs, and usually Goldens live to 8-9 years. But, don't always think, "Oh, my cat is 11, she's gonna die next year at the average age!" Because, look at your cat and my cats (16 and 17-18) and also many other cats... The oldest cat alive is about 26-28 I believe.
Also, it's variable on cats because it depends on if they're outdoor or indoor cats. If they're outdoor cats, then they have a lower chance of surviving very long because being outside all night and day, every night and day... they can catch diseases, infections, and illnesses and many other medical problems. But being indoor, they have a much higher chance of living longer. It's the complete opposite of being an outdoor cat.
It can also depend on whether or not the cat is a pure bred (one whole breed throughout all of the blood in the cat's body), or it is a mixed breed (more than 1 breed in the blood). For dogs, mixed breed = mutt - pure bred = pooch. My dog is a poochy pure bred, she has Shih Tzu blood, only. Pure breds tend to live less than mutts. I'm not quite sure why, but it's true. :)
Hope this answers your questions!! :)

TICA currently recognizes 55 breeds http://tica.org/public/breeds.php
Cats can live 15-20 years and sometimes even longer if taken care of well and kept indoors.

Personally I like guys with shorter hair. I don't mind it becoming a little long like 3-4 in . (maybe a little longer) as very long as it's styled in a very good way.
