Black Metal Fans, most essential albums?

What five or so albums do you think every black metal fan should own. Keep in mind this isn't necessarily your favorite bm albums, I'm asking for the most essential. Also this is for BLACK METAL ONLY for all you trollers out there.

Doesn't have to be just five.

BA: Favorite black metal band?

Update:

Wow, this is going to be a really tough decision for best answer. At first I thought it would be an easy decision since for the first day Madwoman offered the only answer and a good one at that. However, Tron and Escapist, you have both offered great lists since then with even more detail. I'll give it another day to see if I get anymore answers, wish I could give you all 10 points thanks.

Update 2:

To be fair I thought I'd put up a list of my own for you all to critique if you wish.

"In the Nightside Eclipse" Emperor

"Under the Sign of the Black Mark" Bathory

"Pure Holocaust" Immortal

"First Spell" Gehenna

"Storm of the Lights Bane" Dissection

BA: As odd as this sounds Diabolical Masquerade, perhaps not even a true black metal band, interestingly is more of a side project by Blackheim(Katatonia) and Dan Swano(Edge of Sanity) on later albums.

However, their album "Nightwork" is an absolutely flawless black metal album in my opinion and one of my favorites of all time. Just don't think it is as important or essential to the black metal genre as most of the other albums listed though.

ok, i'll try not to be biased, but probably will be abit

Dissection - Storm of The Lights Bane (or Somberlain)

-One of the first Melodic Black metal bands. had the nice mix of technical ability/melody and the darkness of Black metal

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q78Teqr2T6E

    Emperor- In the Nightside Eclipse

-one of the first "symphonic" BM bands....and great on at that too

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA48LBQtYDo&feature...

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky

-to be honest, i prefer "Soulside Journey", but this was their first BM album and was definitely influential for alot of bands

    Mayhem - Deathcrush

-ok, never really liked Mayhem, but i can't exclude them from this list. Might be the first second wave of black metal

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReqhO232HU8&feature...

    Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi

-not only a great album, but the blueprint for many folk/viking/black metal bands that are out there today

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XLNl_vpbNQ

    BA: Dissection

***well, Diabolical Masquerade are a great band. I love all of Swano's work (although on this project, Blackheim is definitely the main guy...i think swano only did drums?)

as far as your list, i'd agree with them all but i'm not sure if gehenna is all that essential. sure its a good album, I really like the melodic atmosphere on the album...but to me its basically the same style as For All Tid..which isn't a bad thing, but not "essential" either imo

Bathory - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark ... this was when Bathory really fully embraced Black Metal I think. A lot of effort was put into this album

Darkthrone - Under A Funeral Moon ... I was going to suggest Transilvanian Hunger but I know some people are dividied over whether this album was too raw so I picked this which has the same feel but less raw.

Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism ... Immortal at their best. Even though they became a tongue-in-cheek Black Metal band they nonetheless set great examples of how its done.

Burzum - Burzum/Aske ... Varg may be a murderer, racist, and a bit crazy but that guy created something great here. It was his first real album and Burzum is just one of those bands that have to be included in such lists.

Mayhem - Deathcrush ... its not veeeeery Black Metal, it has some odd tracks (like Chainsaw Gutsfuck) but Mayhem at this period and with these members, well that's just pure Black Metal.

Also there is a list of the top 15 albums here:

    http://www.anus.com/metal/about/blackmetal.html

    I kinda agree with it.

BA: Gorgoroth. No, not at raw as Black Metal should be but nothing makes me feel like they can. They are like contained rage and anger without being whiny.
