Thesis statement help!!!!! (grade 9)?
First of all, Hi everyone :)
Ok so, im supposed to write a 5 paragraph persuasive essay, well not yet, but i wanna get started as soon as possible to have more time, so anyways, we are looking at the thesis statement and im having a bit of trouble understanding, i wanna write about what influences does the media have regarding eating disorders on teen girls, what would be a good thesis statement? or can you at least explain what should a good thesis statement have and how to get there?
Thanks :)

A thesis statement is the basic claim you are making in your paper. It is the fact that you will be educating the reader about, or the argument that you will be making.
A good thesis statement clearly states what your argument is (example: "The media contributes to eating disorders through its unrealistic representation of women.") The rest of your paper then goes into backing up your thesis statement with arguments and evidence.
One important note is that a thesis statement must be just that: a statement, not a question. It's sometimes tempting to explore multiple different viewpoints or different questions, but a 5-paragraph essay is not the place to do that. A 5-paragraph essay is for making a claim and firmly supporting it with evidence and arguments.
Hope this helps!

I can't help you with a thesis statement, but you might want to explore the motivations for the media to present skinny women as being attractive.
In general, models are skinny because it means they can wear essentially anything. If the clothes are too big, they just pull the clothes tight and quickly sew it up. A woman who is not skinny cannot fit into the smaller sized clothes.
So, models being skinny is essentially about making money for the clothing manufacturers.
Now, why would the media go along with this? Keep in mind that the media (magazines, newspapers, TV shows) all want to make money too. If they are in opposition to the idea that skinny women are the most attractive, do you think clothing manufacturers will buy advertising space in their magazines?
Cynical? No, just truthful. I loved teaching, but I would not have done it for free. Money drives pretty much all actions in this here society thing we have going.

I know exactly how you feel on that one, I suck at writing them.. but it usually helps me when I write an outline.. write everything else except the thesis.. Then last, write the thesis.. Keep in mind, a thesis can be a question.. or a fact too.. something that summarizes everything you wrote, the main point throughout your essay.
Hope I helped you!

a thesis statement is basically the answer to the prompt. your thesis statement should be that the media leads to/ doesn't lead to eating disorders. but word it a little better. be sure to make it clear.

If I was doing one on "Year round schooling is not beneficial for students." I would use
"Year round schooling is not beneficial for students because it would create unnecessary stress, negativity toward school, and limited vacation opportunities."
You basically summarize what your arguments will be, the first body paragraph will address the unnecessary stress students will experience. The second body paragraph would discuss students feeling negatively toward school. The third body paragraph would argue the lack of vacation opportunities if year-round schooling was implemented etc.
Hope this helps.

Many young women from today's generation are constantly influenced and reminded of the thin-trend that the media is portraying today.
