Well theres only two games I can think of on the 64 that involve collecting stars. Super Mario 64 or Paper Mario. I guess you also collect stars in Mario Party,but if it involved him collecting stars and jumping through paintings then its Super Mario 64. If it talks about the 7 star spirits then its Paper Mario.

Super Mario 64. If you want it, you can buy it somewhere for the N64, or better yet, buy it on the Wii Shop Channel for 10 bucks on the Wii
