How can we get a good 44 or 45 load from the factory?

I, myself, would like to see CCI or whoever, (them) offer a 44 special load at 950 fps with a gold dot bullet from a 3 inch barrel, a light load for a 44mag, 200 grains at 1150 from a 4 inch,45 colt, again, at least 200 gr.tween 1000 to 1200fps from a 3 to 4 inch barrel.Yeah, I can do it with handloads, but what about the lawyers?I want real velocities outta real guns. Not a test barrel. Yep, got 210 grain silvertips in my ruger, got the 200 grain cci in my 454. Them both mags. Silvertips, good medium range load. Got a SuperRedHawk? Think about what a 200 grain gold dot at 1150 fps will feel like, 45 caliber, outta your redhawk?I love my 1911's, but revolver still got it's place.

Winchester used to load a mild 210 grain Silvertip load in .44 magnum. I think they discontinued it. I would like to see hotter .44 Specials and .45 Long Colts myself, but they are loaded conservativley because they have to take in account that they can't be responsible for those who would put hotter loads in a much older revolver. Buffalo Bore makes some pretty stiff ammunition. Unfortunately it more or less has to be ordered, and it is rather costly. The closest good loads I have found for .44 Special are loaded by Federal. They utilize a 200 grain hollowpoint that develops a muzzle energy of 360 foot pounds. The Black Hills Cowboy Action loads are pretty lame, with a muzzle velocity of only 700 fps in ..44 Special.

Both the .44 Special and .45 Colt are considered "vintage" cartridges, you will only rarely see factory loads with any real authority for either caliber since the ammo guys have no idea if you are going to stuff it in a new rugged Ruger or a vintage blackpowder antique. Since folks in the US sue everybody for anything (but especially if it would appear that it was their own stupidity that got them into their fix in the first place if they can not use the courts to shift the blame off their own narrow shoulders).

Pistols cartridges are very easy to reload, roll your own partner, and don't sue me if you blow up your gun.

  • Are you proposing +P loads for these calibers? You'll need to convince the ammo companies that there is a sufficient market.

Federal American Eagle brand ammo is slightly hotter than most factory loads.

Have you tried CCI Lawman loads?

Awsome loads if you can get them.
