Anyone ever think about this?

Since our elected representatives including the President campaign for days on end it's reasonable to believe they are being paid expenses (don't know that for sure) by respective candidate campaign funds but; how come we continue to pay them their regular salaries while they are working on behalf of someone who may or may not become the electorate. Why do they get this absurd privilege or are allowed to do this extra activity, while being paid to do something else, are they not supposed to be working for us?

    Sad but true.

I've also been infuriated that the "campaigner in chief" has been gallivanting all over the country to campaign for various people on our dime. He's done an inordinate amount of it in comparison with other presidents. I expect a certain amount of it, but this is ridiculous.

This wasteful trip to India and Indonesia is ridiculous as well. 3000 people and 200 million a day, staying at the Taj Mahal no less. He is not a king, he is supposed to be helping save us all money as we are in debt up to our eyeballs.

This seems to be just another excuse for him to take vacation time. Sure he's thrown in a few meetings to make it look good, but really.

probably the reason they continue to be paid is representatives and especially the president's are technically considered a 24/7 job, they aren't paid by the hour. rep's campaigning is done when congress is on recess/vacation.

It does seem messed up, but I think the key word is salaries. If they were being payed on an hourly basis and doing this, It would probably be illegal. I'm sure they would tell their constituency it was important to promote their party agenda from which they were elected. It is also hard to track actual time spent doing their jobs per year.

The more time they spend on the campaign trail the less time they have to do damage in Washington. They are on salary, not wages.
